Drama Digest

A shared psychiatrist and an encounter between two people still recouping from “incidents” that changed their lives, Mad For Each Other is a quirky romantic comedy that touches upon mental health. No Hwi Oh, a well-to-do detective suddenly gets his life upturned because of an “incident” that leaves him unable to control his anger. Lee Min Kyung, an elegantly dressed pretty woman who seems to have an ordinary life, is caught up in problems due to an “incident” that rendered her incapable of trusting anyone. She’s delusional, and her delusions have the side effect of making everyone around her angry. How will these two fare together on their journey of healing and falling in love with each other?

The Feel Good Part

Skillfully timed and deft comedy with well-written dialogues, if you’re looking for humor, then this series is here to offer. The misfortunes that individuals, in general, go through in life are portrayed realistically. The main characters are more endearing because of their flaws. It is unlike other Kdramas in its humorous yet sensitive portrayal of the chaotic healing process from traumas. Each episode is 30 mins long, unlike the usual 50-60 mins mark, but that all the more adds to the appeal of the series. Its compact episodes make sure that it does not drag on.

The disappointing factor

While the 30-minute runtime ensured that the series did not drag on, the ending was rushed. There were plot holes and loose ends that could have been wrapped up more neatly.

In-depth analysis

In its overall runtime and the number of episodes, it is unlike other Kdramas. Despite that, it managed to expertly execute an entire storyline. The Loveline was well-planned out and breathed life into the whole series. Humour is indeed a big part of the series; however, the series also provokes the viewer to dive deeper into the intricate human psyche, the way we process and heal our traumas.

Star Power

Jung Woo and Oh Yeon Seo, brilliantly executed their respective characters. However, the supporting cast displayed stellar acting skills and created a fresh and vibrant atmosphere throughout the series.

Overall Opinion

What usually drives Kdramas home to the viewers is the famous cast, and while this series does not necessarily have that, if you’re leaving this drama out of your to-watch list based on that, you’re missing out on a true gem. It’s a must-watch series, especially if you’re into Kdramas but bored of the usual plots and tropes.
