The disappointing factor of the whole series is the evolution of the side characters. The main characters have been beautifully described, but they failed to do the same for the side characters, which would have significantly contributed to the story.
In-Depth Analysis
Cha Ji Won is a wonder woman. She is an amazing mother and a loving wife. She works as a detective specializing in homicides, she is quick on her toes and therefore has set herself to solve the mystery of the murder that happened almost 15 years ago. Though it will be tough to track down due lack of witnesses and also degradation of all the evidence she is set to bring justice to the ones who were unfortunate victims of the murder. While investigating the murders, she finds changes in her husband’s behavior which catches her off guard. Her husband, Baek Hee Sung is a doting father to their child, Eun Ha, and an affectionate husband to Ji Won. But it appears as if there is something that might change their relationship for the better. She feels as if her husband is somehow connected to the murders that happened 15 years ago, but at the same time is confused as to what façade her husband is hiding behind and what kind of person he is, and whether all of their relationship and love was just a way to escape the dark secret he has been hiding. Ji Won, soon uncovers bits and pieces of Baek Hee’s life and questions everything and every single moment she had has with him. She wants to protect him because she discovers his unexpected past that put him through such trauma but at the same time, she wants to produce him to the police because she has found evidence that can prove her husband to be guilty. Ji Won is shattered by how the events of her life have turned out to be like this.
Star Power
It also explores the chemistry of all the characters, especially Lee Joon Gi (who plays Baek Hee Sung) who specializes in crime and thrillers whereas Moon Chae Won (who plays Cha Ji Won), and specializes in melodramas, both come together and merge into this perfect masterpiece while playing to the advantage of their specializations. They work together and are a force to be reckoned with. Jung Seo Yeon who plays Baek Eun Ha makes adorable dialogues amid such chaos and displays her cute self and brings some calm in midst of all the serious moments. Kim Ji Hoon does a marvelous job of portraying the young Baek Hee Sung. The other characters do a fantastic job of meshing together and bringing out their emotions to the truest.
Overall Opinion
If mysteries are your cup of tea, then Flower of Evil is the perfect drama to binge-watch to get over the anticipation and suspense with all the episodes out now. An additional disclaimer for the viewer is to sit tight and be ready for all the twists and developments that one might experience.
