Drama Digest

The show revolves around Daisuke Kambe, the heir to one of the wealthiest families of Japan. A detective by profession, he’s assigned to the Modern Crime Prevention Task Force (MCPTF) where officers (of the Tokyo metropolitan police department) who have caused problems in the past are sent as a punishment. Haru Kato, a kind-hearted detective, is selected as Daisuke’s partner. Daisuke tends to evaluate everything based on its monetary value, meanwhile, Haru believes that money isn’t everything. Their polar opposite natures/morals clash throughout the show as Haru utterly detests the way Daisuke goes on about solving crimes using his unlimited financial resources and technology. However, as the story progresses, these two must co-operate to solve the challenging mysteries which unfold before them. Watch the show to find out how their collaboration works out.

The Feel-Good Part

The specialty of The Millionaire Detective- Balance: UNLIMITED is the suspense it offers. The viewers go on a journey of solving the mysteries along with the characters. The light comedy also adds to the entertainment this show offers. The illustrations and the music are something to look forward to; the opening and ending soundtracks are so catchy that you are likely to never skip them. The plot is extremely unique and the freshness of it attracts the viewers.

The Disappointing Element

The show was a little sloppy as a result of rushed production that was necessary because of the pandemic. It actually had a great potential to be something extraordinary. The first episode is a great start but as the plot progresses, it somewhat falls short. Having more character development and engaging action scenes would have lifted this show to a greater height.

In-Depth Analysis

Based on the crime novel series Fugo Keiji (The Millionaire Detective) the show presents itself as a mystery detective show, with light comedy, where the ‘balance unlimited’ aspect is highlighted by the extensive use of the main character’s (Daisuke’s) financial resources to solve the most basic of crimes from outright bribery to espionage in a semi-aggressive manner.

Star Power

All characters of the series are special in their own way. The animation is praiseworthy and unforgettable; it gives the show a unique standing in the genre of detective anime. The voice acting is full of emotions and suitable expressions. The soundtrack is catchy and the main characters have an interesting chemistry; they are polar opposites but still manage to go well together. The side characters add to the overall entertainment.

Overall Opinion

The Millionaire Detective- Balance: UNLIMITED, despite its flaws, stands out as a mystery anime. The plot is like a breath of fresh air and adds a unique element to the detective genre. The animation and the plot degrade as one moves to the end of the series but it still is a decent watch. If someone is looking for a fresh detective anime series, The Millionaire Detective- Balance: UNLIMITED is more than a satisfactory show, but don’t raise your expectations too high because towards the end it somewhat falls short.
