Drama Digest

Sakurako Konishi plays the role of Mineko Kaneko, who is informed in an annual checkup by the doctor that she has a brain tumor and does not have much time left and will pass away soon because of the diagnosis. Oshiro Maeda plays the role of Koji Amane, a lively unemployed person who lives in the present and does not believe in the future or goals. Fate and in their case, a cat bring Mineko and Koji together, they form a connection and get married.

The Feel Good Part

Even though the story is focused on Mineko’s tumor, there is an overall sense of calmness in this drama. The story is simple yet realistic enough, it teaches the valuable lesson that life is unpredictable, it is short and no matter what happens, we need to keep moving forward. The Viewers will enjoy the puppy love romance and the cuteness of our leads.

The Disappointing Part

The viewers may find the series sad. While the plot does prepare viewers for a tragic eventual end, hurt and disappointment may linger on throughout the theme of this drama. The dynamic and unpredictable nature of life is presented a bit too realistically.

In-Depth Analysis

This drama is beautiful. A very simple yet tragic love story of two people who fell in love. The cast is full of new faces, but Sakurako’s acting proved that she was the perfect fit for her role as Mineko. The story focuses on Mineko, her diagnosis, and her falling in love but while for some the story ends there, Mineko’s life is a constant process of healing, grieving, and learning to live.

Star Power

The cast of this show is full of new faces. Both Oshiro and Sakurako are new to the industry and need to work on their acting a lot. Sakurako did perform well as Mineko and managed to make the viewers applaud her as an actress, but Oshiro has a long road ahead. The cast manages to portray a certain depth to the characters they are portraying without making it seem overboard or exaggerated.

Overall Opinion

Overall, I would give this show gets 8.5 due to its aesthetically pleasing plot and sub-par acting. The background music was the highlight of the series. A really good story summarised in 6, 24-minute episodes, one could easily binge-watch it in 2 hours. The cinematography complements the plot well, and themes of love, loss, sadness, and healing are beautifully presented in this drama. Neko may as well be one of the best slices of life drama of 2020 deserving of all the attention it gets.
