The Japanese series Moshimo, Ikemen Dake no Koukou ga Attara, translated into English as ‘What if there was a High School for handsome men only,’ is a series that revolves around multiple high school handsome guys. All these guys compete with each other in order to win the title of ‘the most handsome man.’
The Feel-Good Part
The series uses a pretty good-looking cast, unlike many Japanese series. It is a complete light-hearted drama, with no intentions of anything serious. It has tried to entertain people with its silliness and fluffiness.
The Disappointing Factor
The show is said to be pretty bland with not much happening except for the importance of the visuals of the characters. Even though the main lead is charming, the entire focus of the storyline has been given to him. The other guys who are supposed to be the handsome guys to be focused on don’t affect the storyline in any way. It feels negative that they were just used for their good looks and had to be there just for their looks.
In-Depth Analysis
The story is based in a high school named Shiritsu Minan Gakuen. This school has always been famous for its vast number of handsome-looking male students. As they are praised by everyone, these guys decide to participate in a competition called as ‘Handsome Guy Tournament.’ This tournament is a huge deal for them as National selections are held for it. For many years, the school has dominated the top ranks in this competition. But after a couple of years, the school seems to have lost the winning touch. These guys intend to bring back the lost dignity of the school in the handsome guy competition. The protagonist of the show, Ikeda Ryoma, is a new student to have enrolled in the university. Being an ordinary guy and unaware of all this, Ikeda is initially confused. But later, he grows curious and decides to participate in this tournament as well. But as he thinks he is not as handsome as the other guys, he uses other creative and unique tricks to get the winning edge. With all this happening, a girl named Kanna Sakurai gets a crush on the ordinary-looking Ikeda because she’s not interested in the other handsome guys. She falls for the simplicity of Ikeda. This is the story of Ikeda finding his way and love in an unusual school environment.
Star Power
The series’s main focus is on its protagonist, Ikeda Ryoma. He’s a smart, charming, and funny guy who tries to win the competition with his creativity, unlike the others.
Overall Opinion
Though the show has tried to incorporate messages like ‘beauty is within,’ it is mostly plain. Even though it’s bland with mostly no meaning, it’s not something one will regret after watching. It can be a cute watch for passing the time.
