Drama Digest:

Wako Machida is an editor for a popular manga magazine. She is career-centric and focuses on her work. She doesn’t have time to do make-up or make herself beautiful. On the other hand, Meguru Soma is a model and works at a fashion shop. He always beautifies himself and does many kinds of skin treatments and make-up. They seem different from each other. What happens when they fall in love? Watch the drama to know how the story unravels.

The Feel-Good Part:

There is cute romance in this show. This show should be appreciated for handling many kinds of gender issues. The male main lead character, Soma Meguru is androgynous. His journey towards sharing his views on beauty and gender is inspiring. Other gender and sexuality issues pop up like why should only women have to choose between family and work? Why are men held to higher standards in the workplace than women are? And this kind of several things. This drama explores many taboo ideas and presents deeper and purer relationships. The OSTs are good in this. However, this is a lighthearted drama which the audience can enjoy.

The Disappointing Factor:

The screen presence and cinematography could have been better. The lead actors are overshone by the second lead. The audience can notice loopholes in the show.

In-Depth Analysis:

The show beautifully handled the sensitive issue of the typical dressing sense on the basis of gender. Here it has shown that anyone can wear make-up if he/she likes it. This drama will be pretty motivating for the viewers.

Star Power:

Yoshikawa Ai as Machida Wako is the most talented and emotional character, giving a very accurate performance of a young working girl who escapes the entertainment media. Besides that, her comic timing is also good. Itagaki Rihito as Soma Meguru is perfect for his role. His every emotion and comic timing are portrayed beautifully. The other characters are so good in their roles. Mizuno Miki as Asahi is very convincing and a mentor figure to everyone.

Kiriyama Renn as Kira is hilarious in the show. His over-the-top antics steal almost the entire drama. Oda Oideyasu is also good on his part. He constantly corrects everyone on language which makes the drama funnier.

Overall Opinion:

Colorful Love is a lighthearted, fun-loving Japanese drama. The most exciting part is that the male lead dresses and acts without regard for any gender roles. Soma Meguru enjoys wearing dresses, putting on make-up, and bright nail paints. This show feels so fresh and progressive, and it handles a simple romance without making you feel bored. This drama thoroughly entertains the audience. This drama is based on a popular manga series ‘My Androgynous Boyfriend.’
