Drama Digest

Seki Kazuki is a medical student graduate working as an intern in one of Tokyo’s hospitals. His senior, a resident, Ryuji Ameno, dreams of being a professional doctor. The resident’s job is to update the patient’s condition to the doctors. They also need to get their medical examination reports done, go on rounds, and look after anything that requires emergency attention. The medical team encounters different situation for different patients. Ameno often ends up doubting his ability. Yet he keeps on fighting to make his dream come true.

Moreover, he is criticized daily by the seniors and other doctors. At times he also becomes vulnerable to the suffering patients. He gets attached to them emotionally and becomes overwhelmed by their death. Nevertheless, his intense passion helps him in the journey of proving his expertise and fellow in-training doctors. This drama is a spinoff to ‘Nakuna Kenshui’ both of these are based initially upon a novel of the same name by Yujiro Nakayama.

The Feel-Good Part

It captures the hurdles a doctor goes through when they begin their career. But also how those crucial moments carve out their professionality, thus making a more expansive space for hope and happiness. The drama draws upon several heart-warming relations between the seniors and the interns, doctors, and patients. It shows the connection between doctor and patient is no less significant than that with their family. How they manage to stick through hard times and make the condition of patients bearable with constant effort, be it their physical or mental health, is portrayed very well.

The Disappointing Factor

The comical element seems to be imposed rather than being natural. It doesn’t always totally go along with the urgency of situations. A sense of incompleteness looms around due to the lack of better editing.

In-Depth Analysis

The drama is a concoction of grief, sorrow, joy and cheerfulness. Creating changing stories and building several situations based on them gives a rough overview of the conditions medical teams continuously need to manoeuvre. This way, it focuses on the many methods they imply to ensure the concerned patients’ better health. It also delves into how the medical professionals structure out a life of their own amidst everything. Thus, it beautifully offers a realistic vision through fiction. In addition, the definition of medical terms provides extra help for the audience to understand it better and enhance their knowledge, thereby invigorating sympathy among the viewers.

Star Power

The cast did an excessive job of bringing out the emotional depth of the characters. Ohira Shuzo, Shirahama Alan, and Nagami Rea excellently defined their characters. The supporting actors brought tension to the stories.

Overall opinion

The popularity of this drama is visible from making a spinoff of the former ‘Nakuna Kenshui.’ With an extraordinary cast and tragi-comical representation, no wonder it didn’t fail to gain attention. If you’re a fan of the medical genre with a tinge of laughter and occasional tears, this drama can be another exciting addition to your list.
