Drama Digest

Poisoned Love is a Chinese drama aired in 2020 and is alternatively known as Fall in Love. The plotline revolves around a genius voice actor, Fang Yan, who developed sleepwalking due to her past traumas. Fang Yan is helped by a film producer named Shi Meng, who helps her out of her traumatic experience. However, due to a misunderstanding, Fang Yan mistakes Shi Meng for his brother Shi Yi, who she thought had helped her with her mental health. As the story progresses, the three of them untie the knot of misunderstandings, and the picture gets more and more clear.

The Feel-Good Part

The chemistry between the two leads is out of the world, and the music and background score was well suited to the events of the plotline. The storyline had a mixture of both lighthearted moments and dark moments, which made the drama one of the best in its genre.

The Disappointing Factor

The pace of the drama is rather slow, and the character of the female lead is typical, which is seen in the majority of Asian dramas, being helpless and stupid. The direction of the drama was lacking, which makes the drama a little dragged, especially the use of excessive flashback scenes. The flow of the drama gets disrupted.

In-Depth Analysis

The first half of the drama is inclined more toward romance, while the second half of the drama is inclined toward drama that involves the traumatic past and the unraveling of the incidents which can be seen in the flashback scenes. The acting of the cast is appreciable and convincing. However, the screenplay and dialogues are not up to the mark and ruined the otherwise perfect drama series.

Star Power

Ao Rui Peng and Luo Zheng play the lead role of Shi Meng and Shi Yi, respectively. The female lead character of Fang Yan is played by Ma Meng Wei. The supporting cast of the series includes actors such as Osborn Ma, Miffy Shi, Wu Cheng Ze, Ma Chen Yan, Su Xin, Rory Wang, Cheng Shi Yu, Zack Gao, Xin Ru Yi, and many more. There are also guest appearances by many actors such as Li Qiang, Xu Jia Xi, Leng Hai Ming, Li Yun Qiao, Zeng Xi Tang, and many more.

Overall Opinion

Poisoned Love is a decent drama that makes for a decent rom-com with average storytelling and plotline. The acting, music, and chemistry between the leads are the only strong points of the drama that can make the viewers stay till the end. Overall, Poisoned Love is a one-time watch drama that, despite being a rom-com, has its share of the mystery genre.
