Drama Digest

The drama revolves around a makeup artist, Meng Hui, and Shen Yi, a stingy CEO of a cosmetic company. The makeup artist suffers from a mental disorder and a physical flaw that was given to her when she was a very young child. The CEO is a very interesting character who lives like a commoner, wears cheap clothes and rides a bus instead of bragging about his money. The story starts when the CEO turns out to be the person who injured the makeup artist and instead of taking responsibility, he escaped. Years later, they reunite with each other in a beauty show, where they greet each other formally. The company initiates a foundation project and in order to promote it and make it work, the two pretend to date. It was soon enough when the main lead figures out that it was him, who caused the mark on her face, and decides to give up everything in order to apologize to Meng Hui and make up for his past mistakes.

The Feel-Good Part

The story is quite interesting. The responsibility of the CEO shows the character development he faced as he was the reason for the female lead’s imperfections. He turned his guilt into a successful career and then transforming his guilt again into his love, tells us a lot about him. The plot was fun and sweet and delivered some great messages. The sound effects, music and the OST were loved by the audience.

The Disappointing Part

However, the story seemed a little strange and rushed and lacked depth both in the plot and development. The emotions and the climax of their love story were also robbed. The drama would have benefited more if the story wasn’t too dragging.

In-Depth Analysis

It is quite different than other Chinese dramas, which is why it gained a lot of interest and popularity from the audience. The mental disorder that the female lead suffered from made her experience a dissociative identity disorder. It caused her to constantly switch between two personalities. Meng Hui had to struggle all her life, to balance between her two completely opposite sides. During her meeting with the CEO, she experienced the disorder yet again and declared herself as the CEO’s girlfriend. It was fate that reunited them unwillingly, and later they fell in love with each other. The drama was scanty and too rushed and could have been given a better script. The entire drama, even the relationships, revolves around that one scar.

Star Power

Despite the lack of background and dialogue narration, the cast did a fantastic job even with the messy and rushed timeline. They all complimented each other very well. The second lead was well maintained and made the audience fall for them. Even the supporting characters portrayed their role well.

Overall Opinion

The drama was a good and light rom-com that had everything besides the lack of depth. The actors all made up for it and their characters can be very endearing.
