“Maid’s Revenge” is a Chinese mini tv series also known as “Lady or Servant”. The story revolves around Dong Ting Yao, who had to convert into a maid from a lady after a massacre wiped her whole family out. The man she had to serve later was the one to kill her father.
The Feel-Good Part
The drama has a dark and melodramatic plot. The show has some intense moments and also emotions portrayed. It is a blast from the past where the female is dominated by the male and is used for his pleasures. It is like a fantasy guilty pleasure drama. There are some intense emotions like- love, hate, desire, passion, fear, and frustration. It is still enjoyable despite all the annoying factors as it has interesting characters which include- a dominating male lead and an evil mother. The costumes, setting, and cinematography of the show are top-notch and deserve all the appreciation.
The Disappointing Factor
There are many tropes in the drama that will make the viewers hate the show. But one may enjoy it without considering those and simply enjoying the romance. The ending of the show was poor, which made many viewers drop it halfway. It has many classic tropes and does not have a unique or creative story.
In-Depth Analysis
Dong Ting Yao’s whole family was wiped out overnight in a massacre. Before the death of her father, he told her to refuge in her fiance, Fang Yu Ze’s home. She had never seen Fang Yu Ze. But at that moment, Fan Yu Ze’s uncle, Fang Tian Yi, stormed into the house with his troops. Fang Tian Yi is the governor and the warlord of this territory. Dong Ting Yao believed it was he who murdered her whole family. After an argument, he took Dong Ting Yao to his residence and held her captive. She escapes from there and goes to her fiancé’s house but after reaching she finds out that her half-sister, Dong Yan Er, has taken her position as a fiancé. Then, as she realizes that Fang Tian Yi is the leader of the same household, she plans a revenge plot. She then becomes the maid of that household to deploy her revenge plan and also to reclaim her position as Fang Yu Ze’s fiancé. But Fang Tian Yi had other ideas in mind.
Star Power
The drama may seem uncomfortable, but the charms and skills of the actors will make you enjoy it despite all the other factors. Dai Gao Zheng’s character is excellent even though he portrayed a negative role. The chemistry between the two was mesmerizing to watch.
Overall Opinion
The show has a lot of factors to attract hate but is still thriving because of the intense emotions it portrays. Since it is a short drama, they are well-paced and do not need significant investment. Above all, it is worth watching for Dai Gao Zheng’s jaw-dropping appearance.
