Drama Digest

Maiden Holmes (少女大人), a Chinese television series, is about a young man finding the ones who framed him and a local female detective who assists him. Head under the flawless direction of Li Xiao Jiang, the drama spans thirty episodes. Each episode lasts about forty-five minutes. On the original network of Tencent video, it aired from the 27th of August, 2020, to the 10th of September, 2020.

The Feel-Good Part

Maiden Holmes is one of the rare drama series where you find a persistent female character. And someone who has a firm opinion on the wrongs happening in the world. Moreover, the relationship developing between Su Ci and Yan Zhi keeps viewers falling from their chairs. One of the heart-stealing moments is when Yan Zh promises not to reveal her cross-dressing circumstances to the public even when he has the chance.

The Disappointing Factor

Although everything fits in the drama series, the only shortcoming we do not understand is the construction of the plot. Further, we do not know if Su Ci and Yan Zhi hold a wedding together themselves in the end.

In-Depth Analysis

Being in charge of a small squad of soldiers, he charges at a local conflict, where he loses under suspicious circumstances. And he is put on trial. The antagonist, Pe Yan Zhi, changes the position of the Crown Prince to a person who would listen well to his commands. Determined to vindicate himself, he distinguishes himself as a commoner in a village, where he comes across Su Ci. She is the gorgeous detective who cross-dresses as a man and gains information as a government officer on various criminal cases.

Star Power

The cast includes Sebrina Chen as Su Ci/ Bia Yi An, Zhang Ling He as Pei Zhao/ Prince Qi, Zhang Jia Ding as Xei Bei Ming, Wang Yi Zhe as Dong Ru Shuang, Huang Yi as Fei Yuan, Zhu Min Xin as Jiang Xi Wen, Li Jin Rong as Prince Yun, Andy Huang as the Emperor, Zhu Feng, Eunuch Li, Chang Cheng as Liu Xuan/ Bai Jing,  Chen Ruo Xi as Li Yu, Liu Yu Kun as Peng Yi, Ma Hao as Fu Zi You, Xu Han as Fu Zi Zhou, Sun Bin Hao as Head Constable Chen, and Xiao Xin Feng.

Overall Opinion

Maiden Holmes is definitely worth watching once, if not more. It beautifully mixes historical period drama and romance with crime and thriller genres. You can catch up with this on lonely nights.
