Drama digest

The Shanghai Fuxing Club suspected a communist spy amongst them. Chen Moqun, Shanghai station’s head, went to the Fuxing club cadre training center to bring a SpyHunter. Lin Nansheng is one of the training center’s students. Moqun is attracted to the observing personality of Nansheng. Therefore Moqun leads him to the arrest of the underground party at Lanyi Club. When Nansheng is inspired by communist workers Gu Shenyan, zhu Yizhen, and Ji Zhongyuan, the plot takes a radically different direction. Fearless instincts of the communists and a determination to sacrifice for the country lure Nansheng in. He changes himself to be a communist member after ten years of working out in the field. He vowed to combat the Japanese, performing numerous military feats. He contributes to the Chinese War of Liberation and the War of Resistance against Japan.

The feel-good part

The story setting dates back from China in 1936. The set and appearance evoke the Republican era. The series is dramatic, fascinating, and emotional while also providing insights into Chinese communist history. The plot was exciting, with a covert espionage operation, a communist mission, and a military revolt. War and crimes scenes appear to be both heartbreaking and terrifying. However, the action sequences are the perfect shot of the drama from a scene standpoint. The protagonist’s patriotism and defiance give the show a good vibe.

The disappointing factor

On the surface, the plotline appears to be near-perfect in terms of the crime genre. This drama is maybe more grave for a general audience. The build-up transitions smoothly to climax throughout the first half of the story. The conclusion is anti-climactic for the latter half of the play. The suspense climax may not be as good as the build-up of suspense and plot. The plot might sometimes go off in unexpected directions, and the characters can be hard to connect within each scene.

In-depth analysis

The drama is from Bi Yu’s novel “Rebel.” The play focuses on China’s communist history and specific wars against Japan. The drama delivers a simplified version of Chinese Communism’s ideals and philosophies to its viewers. Any viewer can readily adopt the concepts. The action scenes were well-produced, with close-to-perfect pictures. The drama characters, particularly Moqun and Gu Shenyan, had strong personalities that made them stand out. However, some, such as Zhu Yizhen, were underdeveloped. The drama’s central concept, on the other hand, stood apart from its rivals.

Star power

The leading actors and actresses were competent and skilled. Zhu Yilong’s performance as Lin Nansheng was significantly superior to the rest of the cast. Wang Yang’s performance as Chen Moqun and Wang Zhiwen’s performance as Gu Shenyan were outstanding in the drama. Tong Yao (Zhu Yizhen) is Nansheng’s female counterpart.

Overall opinion

The Rebel is a charming Chinese drama with a plot that is informative, intriguing, emotional, and clever. It is a spy crime series depicting Ling Nansheng’s rebellion to become a communist member. Overall, the drama is a must-see series for fans of historical mysteries with espionage. In general, it performs admirably and is worth watching.
