Drama Digest

This drama looks at the Central Plains and their four countries Dongyue, Ximing, Southern Xinjiang, and Beiling. After failing a bombing and demolition mission, modern secret agent Su Qing Ying crosses to another era and becomes the fifth princess of the Dongyue Kingdom. One day she wakes up in a ruined temple, and her memories come flooding back with her identity and the fate ahead for her. She finds out that her soon-to-be husband, Xuan Yuan Che, the king of the Ximing Kingdom, tricked her into ruining a temple and set a trap to destroy their marriage. Still, she manages to escape it due to her secret identity and her background as a secret agent. After she runs, she meets Jun Li Ye, who heals her in the woods. We find out that Jun Li Ye, the regent of Beiling, is angered by Su Qing Ying. What happens next could cause the date of two different eras to change drastically. It is up to Su Qing Ying to figure out what to do before things go wrong. Watch this modern and historical drama and learn that fate can change everything in a split second. It is all in the hands of our main protagonist.

The Feel-Good Part

Adapting from a manhua called Prince’s Overwhelming Love allows the drama to have an established fan base and something to look forward to every episode. There are a lot of fun moments throughout the drama that is truly interesting to watch. The addition of two eras allows us to look at how time changes in this world and allows the drama to explore a wide range of settings, costumes, cultures, and more. Our main lead is also brilliant yet vulnerable, which enables viewers to root for her in all that she does. There is a great sense of wonder and beauty that comes from this drama visually which is backed by the visuals presented in the beautiful manhua.

The Disappointing Factor

While the addition of two eras is interesting, there are moments where it feels convoluted and nonsensical. Some sci-fi and time travel elements are not handled well and seem out of place. There is also a wide range of decisions within the drama that could have been removed, and would not affect the drama as a whole. Another misstep of this drama is how it handles emotions. While it is not a major downfall, it is noticeable. With cleaner plotlines, this drama could be a lot better, but whatever it does right, it does perfectly.

In-Depth Analysis

Time travel in romantic dramas is a rare sight, and there is a lot you can get from it. It is a unique historical drama. While the show has a few missteps here and there, it can have great moments. There are a lot of questions of fate and destiny within this drama that get lost, but whatever it tries to say, it does so beautifully.

Star Power

Youku’s brand of historical dramas is engaging. There is a lot that the platform has to offer, and more often than not, they are perfect media such as Ashes of Love, GO Into Your Heart, Jun Jiu Ling, and Love and Redemption. The most considerable star power of this drama is the manhua that it is inspired by. The manhua was created by Ake Culture. She has been known for producing great projects, such as Please Be Married, Hidden Marriage Love, More and More Loves You, Campus Ace, and more. She is also credited as a producer on My Dearest Boss. Our two lead roles are Su Qing Ying, and Jun Li Ye, played by Zhao Wen Roy and Zhou Sheng. Both are fascinating characters and add to the beauty and excitement of the show. Zhao Wen Rou also stars in Rock Sugar Summer. Zhou Sheng stars in dramas and movies such as Debut, Maid Escort, Mysterious Raiders, and The New Strange Tales from Liaozhai: The Male Fox. We also have a spectacular supporting role from Sun Rong Kai, who plays Su Zi Yi. His role is an impressive one and it’s fun to see him in the moments of the drama. He starred in dramas such as Oh! My Dream Daddy Season 1 and 2. It is fascinating to see what he does next and what his other castmates do.

Overall Opinion

There are moments where this drama falls into the realm of classic historical drama, but the extra element it pushes adds to its charm. If you are a fan of the manhua, you may enjoy this. If you have never read the manhua before, you can still enjoy it.
