Drama Digest
Legend of Awakening is a 2020 Chinese streaming television series based on the novel of the same name by Hudie Lan. It revolves around the bond that connects friend to friend, family to family and lover to lover.
The Feel Good Part
The plot revolves around the six main characters’ intimate friendships (as well as a few of their mentors.) This is difficult to find when romance is involved. It’s the ideal mix of friendship and romance. It has all the elements of a drama, with dramatic surprises sprinkled throughout that make it binge-worthy. It immediately makes you feel more at ease even when you’re supposed to be confused and anxious. The OST was just beautiful. It really complimented to each scene and wrenched at most viewers’ heart many times. Even at low budget production, the whole visuals of the drama series make it a lovely series to watch and connect to.
The Disappointing Factor
The ending was unsatisfactory and heartbreaking. The ending could have been executed smoother and better. The plot progress was very absurd. The first few episodes moved relatively well at a timed pace. However, after that the plot started moving fast and scenes were abrupt and it did not have the flow or the fluidity. After that, it became too slow and monotonous while this was the time when the characters started growing on most us viewers. Then, gradually the plot moved at a relatively timed pace. Again, it felt incomplete since the last four episodes were super fast-paced. The plot was moving so fast that made the ending so abrupt.
In-Depth Analysis
Each character of the story grew and blossomed into exquisite and fine young folk. The journey and growth of the male protagonist through the impulses of youth was underlined the most throughout the series. Throughout the series, the slow reveal of his terrible background was handled smoothly. The production crew did an excellent job with the tragic and necessary sacrifices required to get the protagonists to the finish of their journey. The narrative twists and unpredictable pacing of the plot unexpectedly made the series an enjoyable and thrilling watch worthy of a weekend binge. Another beautifully executed aspect about this drama is how strong the female characters are. They are just as capable as their male counterparts. This warms our hearts as this drama has not only one but four really strong and beautifully portrayed female characters.
Star Power
The cast was an absolute beauty to most viewers. The costumes and the editing made all cast shine and glow. Their acting was also filled with passion and emotions. Nothing felt forced excpet for the random pacing of the series.
Overall Opinion
If you like randomly paced series with pinches of sorrow and joy every now and then, it is perfect for you. Be prepared.
