Article: Top 10 Unusual Pairing In Korean Dramas

Kdramas are many times popular because of their male and female lead characters, the OTP, but sometimes we are surprised by the feelings those unusual pairs of Kdrama characters bring us. So, I have listed down for you ten of those dramas where the unusual pairing of some characters took us by surprise and hit us with emotions that we didn't think we would feel because of them.

1. Vincenzo

This drama has it all, but what I loved was the unexpected friendship between the characters of Song Joong Ki and Kwak Dong Yeon. These two showed us that friendship doesn't have boundaries, as Song Joong Ki's character ends up befriending Kwak Dong Yeon's character and taking him under his wing, even though he is the younger brother of his enemy.

2. Prison Playbook

A Correctional officer and a man who has been sentenced to prison, it can't get weirder than that. But Park Hae Soo and Jung Kyung Ho's characters don't make us feel that way. These friends who get reunited in prison are a paradigm of friendship. Even when they are reunited under such circumstances, their friendship suffers no blows as they continue to be best of friends, the bars of prison not being able to restrict their friendship.

3. Oh My Venus

The male and female lead share a cute relationship here which made us have butterflies in our stomachs. However, the relationship between So Ji Sub and Choi Jin Ho, though odd, made us laugh, sigh, slap our foreheads, and do and feel a plethora of things. Their relationship was different from the usual manager and wealthy heir of a company.

4. It's Okay, That's Love

Lee Maang Soo is one of my favorite Korean actors, and his comic timing is so perfect it has always caught me by surprise. His pairing with Sung Dong Il, who plays his therapist, made this drama more entertaining and crazy in a good way. These two men created magic with their impeccable comic timings and unusual but refreshing chemistry.

5. Healer

Jealous Ji Chang Wook in any drama is a treat for all of his fans, including me, but in this drama, it was his character's relationship with Kim Mi Kyung's character that caught my attention. This unusual duo always had an affectionate relationship hidden under the garb of their bickering and witty banter. Though they don't meet until the very last bits of the drama, their relationship is a refreshing one.

6. The Moon Embracing The Sun

The King has always been paired with the Queen, but in this drama, the relationship of the King with his Eunuch, though strange to think about, was something to look forward to. Kim Soo Hyun and Jung Eun Pyo have done a fantastic job, and showed us another side of the relationship between the King and his Eunuch, where the Eunuch is much more than the Yes-man of the King.

7. Vampire Prosecutor 2011

Min Tae Yeon and Lee Won Jong were such an unusual pair that they seemed ordinary. These two friends share a relationship where they can say whatever they want to the other and the other won't feel bad; they joke, bicker and nag, and are also able to strike us hard with their emotional scenes.

8. City Hunter

City Hunter came in 2011 and had been an instant hit. Apart from the romantic aspect, we were also moved by the chemistry between Lee Min Ho and Kim Sang Ho. This unusual duo had unbelievable chemistry. The character of Lee Min Ho had been brought up by that of the character of Kim Sang Ho, and thus, the charismatic Lee Min Ho was a different man in front of his caretaker, who was a chef by profession and had a passion for shopping.

9. Queen Of Reversals

Although this is a romance drama, what took the cake for me was the relationship between Park Si Hoo and Kim Chang Wan's characters. Due to some unavoidable circumstances, these polar opposites start living together. Every time they share the screen, there is an explosion of many emotions. They made us laugh and sometimes even look at them in awe. This Pairing though odd was a great one.

10. Sungkyunkwan Scandal

The unbelievable onscreen chemistry that Song Joong Ki has with his female leads is something we have always looked forward to, but what we are surprised by in this drama was, the fantastic chemistry between him and Yoo Ah In. These two excellent actors were able to portray their characters so well that we felt they were real. Their relationship made us envious as we wanted something so special as well.
