1. Alienoid (2022)

The sci-fi action movie released in 2022 opens in the Goryeo dynasty, where Muruk (Ryu Jun-yeol) is in search of a sword. Meanwhile, in the year 2022, aliens invaded the Earth and possessed the bodies of humans. Alienoid is filled with a lot of action. It has a different storyline than the usual sci-fi movies we are used to and that makes it an interesting watch.

A space opera starring Song Joong-ki, Kim Tae-ri, and Jin Seon-kyu is considered the first Korean space film that became a blockbuster. The setting is around the year 2092. A crew of space sweepers who live and work on a planet made by a private organization finds themselves in a dangerous situation. The movie is interesting to watch. It has that Guardians of the Galaxy feel with a lot of outer space scenes.

3. Save The Green Planet! (2003)

Save the Green Planet! is a sci-fi dark comedy about a man who thinks that aliens are going to attack Earth soon. Although not entirely a movie about space, it does contain some scenes related to extraterrestrial beings. It is an offbeat film about Korean society. It may not be for everyone. But, if you are looking for a good satire and some twisted dark comedy, you can give it a try.

4. Jung-E 2023

Recently released, the film talks about a future world where humans are forced to live in shelters built in space as Earth is not suitable for living. Civil war is occurring, and to stop it, a scientist develops an AI named Jung-E. The movie has stunning visuals. It is action-filled sci-fi with a commendable performance from Kim Hyun-joo as the main lead. Other casts include Kang Soo-yeon, Ryoo Kyung-soo, Jung Woo-sung, and Uhm Ji-won.  Reviews by critics were mixed during its initial release. Jung-E is available on Netflix.

5. Aachi & Ssipak (2006)

Aachi & Ssipak is an adult animation about a future where people get power from unusual sources. It is filled with rough humor, violence, and sexual references that might not be for everyone. There are a lot of scenes in between the film suggesting space traveling. It is a dark satire that is weirdly funny to watch. Now what is that energy source, how do people and main leads deal with their everyday situations? To find out, you will have to watch the film.

6. The Satellite Girl And Milk Cow (2014)

The Satellite Girl and Milk Cow is an animated film showing a relationship between a satellite named Gyung-Chul who takes a form of a girl and a man named Joni who has been turned into a cow by a wizard. It is a wild imagination involving science fiction and fantasy. Viewers may find some aspects of the story confusing. Humor is there. Overall, it is a light-hearted movie.

7. Space Monster Wangmagwi! (1967)

Space Monster Wangmagwi is a South Korean Kaiju film inspired by Japanese Kaiju. Kaiju is a genre where giant monsters are shown attacking a city like in Godzilla and King Kong. The plot is simple. Aliens from outer space attack Earth by releasing a giant monster into heavily populated areas. It is not an overhyped film. You will find it quite similar to King Kong.

8. Snowpiercer (2013)

Yes, it is a South Korean film with an international cast. Directed by Bong Joon-ho, Snowpiercer stars Chris Evans, Octavia Spencer, Tilda Swinton, Song Kang-ho, Jamie Bell, John Hurt, and Ed Harris. In a post-apocalyptic world, humanity survives on a train called Snowpiercer. The train is divided into different social classes. Now, a rebellion starts to overthrow the tyrant sitting in the front. Visually, you feel the tension and stereotype on the train. Performances by the actors are applaudable. You can watch this on Netflix.

9. Alienoid 2 (2023)

If you have watched Alienoid, then the hype for part 2 is real! It is yet to be released. As the first part is left on a cliffhanger, viewers are waiting eagerly for the fate of the characters. Alienoid is written and directed by Choi Dong-hoon and the cast are Kim Woo-bin, Kim Tae-ri, Ryu Jun- yeol, Lee Hanee, Kim Eui-sung, and Jo Woo-jin. In part 1, viewers got to know about a sword that can make a person go through different timelines. This leads to chaos in the two worlds as they collide.

10. Spark- A Space Tail (2016)

Spark- A Space Tail is an animated film co-produced by Canada and South Korea. With the collaboration between Canadian and South Korean animation studios, the movie is about a monkey named Spark and his adventure to save his planet. It has a vibrant and imaginative animation that kids are going to love. Storytelling-wise, this film is made for young kids and there is nothing new that can attract adults. The characters are voiced by Jessica Biel, Susan Sarandon, and Jace Norman. Spark- A Space Tail is available on Prime Video.
