The audience who are unfamiliar with anime might consort it with other animations that are typically aimed at kids. This might be possible due to the public perception that anime is constantly filled with ostentatiously vibrant animations and adorable-looking characters. There are characters created to give the audience the chills. These characters not only look scary but also perpetuate unthinkable acts.
1. Gotou- Parasyte: The Maxim
The story is about Shuichi Izumi, a young man infected by an alien parasite. Gotou is an experimental parasite that was created by Reiko. He is the main antagonist of the series. Gotou is inhabited by five parasites. Initially, he appears as a regular human, his face has sharp fangs and more eyes in his parasite form. His parasite form can be the object of anyone’s nightmare.
2. Unalaq- The Legend Of Korra
Avatar Korra is coming into her own as a new avatar-in-training. The world around her is in upheaval as new ideologies about spiritualism and bending take hold. Unalaq, her uncle, is one of these new leaders. He believes that the spirit and mortal world can coexist and there is no need for an avatar. Soon, he realizes that these two species together are a big problem. He scares fans because of his single-minded devotion to his beliefs at everyone’s risk- including his children.
3. Giovanni- Fire Force
Shin Kusakabe is a young man who joins the Fire Force Company 8. This organization is created to investigate the Infernal, humans who have combusted and turned into monsters. The organization is run by Giovanni, who wears a top hat and a plague doctor mask. His main goal is to aid White Clad, a group creating the Infernal. His inhuman movements and appearance make him a scarier aspect of the show.
4. No Face- Spirited Away
Chihiro Ogino and her parents while driving to their new house stumble upon an abandoned amusement park, and they are sucked into the spirit world. To get her parents back, she must work in the spirit bath house. While she meets many people, no one is as spectral as No Face. Even though he is a generous client, he soon shows his ways when a mouth opens up in his abdomen and gobbles up staff members. Though he calms down, fans can’t forget his gaping maw.
5. Mahito- Jujutsu Kaisen
Yuji Itadori is a sorcerer in training after a run-in with a cursed spirit. Though the soul resides in him, they both can coexist for now. Along his journey, he encounters many dangerous spirits. Till now, no one is as dangerous or disturbing as Mahito. Mahito is still young as a cursed spirit, his power and impetuousness to transform matter make him incredibly volatile. He takes pleasure in transforming himself and humans into macabre creations.
6. Gendo Ikari- Neon Genesis Evangelion
Shinji Ikari is the young protagonist recruited in the Nerv program to pilot EVA Unit-01. Shinji’s father, Gendo Ikari, is the head of the Nerv. After losing his wife, he buries himself in work, abandoning all his connections with his son. This made him a calculating and cold individual who has no empathy. He lacks any emotion, and his single-minded vendetta makes him an unsettling individual.
7. Tomura Shigaraki- My Hero Academia
He is the main antagonist of the series. Tomura Shigaraki is the sinister villain who not only has the office decay Quirk but also a sickening visage. His past stresses have caused him a habit of scratching his skin, which leaves it badly blemished. The audience was disturbed when they learned the true meaning behind the hands that he wears on his body.
8. The Reaper- Assassination Classroom
Nagisa Shiota gets sent to Class 3-E and expects it to be a living nightmare. However, he finds it is a secret government task where assassins are given a task: to kill their teacher. The class comes across The Reaper, another assassin. As Korosensei’s ex-protege, he is tasked with killing his teacher. The class has grown to love Korosensei, and they all are more disturbed by The Reaper’s appearance. As a cover, he cut off his face, leaving a skeletal visage behind.
9. Muzan Kibutsuji- Demon Slayer
Muzan is the main antagonist of the series. He is the Demon King, being the first of his kind, and is the progenitor of all the other demons in existence. The demon they are searching for in the series is Muzan. He can transform his appearance, effortlessly blending in the crowd/his power and lack of compassion make him a pretty horrifying character.
10. Shao Tucker
While traveling, they come across a State Alchemist, Shao Tucker, whose most significant achievement was creating a living illusion. When his Alchemist status is in jeopardy, Alphonse and Edward discover the despicable secret to Tucker’s success: animal and human transmutation by combining his family pet and daughter. Fans tend to skip this episode while rewatching the series to avoid his heinous act.
