Drama digest:
This is a story about the protagonist, a female, Hina Tsurugi. She, along with her family, moves to her previous hometown, where she ends up joining a mysterious club consisting of 5 other girls.
The feel-good factor:
It has a serene premise as the entire story only revolves around fishing. Even though it is a single concept, it does not bore the audience. It’s interesting to watch the group try new things and have fun together. Moreover, fishing as a concept of spice-of-life is a unique one in the Manga series.
The disappointing factor:
The show does not have anything to be picked out as disappointing. Even though it’s a story without any zig-zags, it’s an entertaining one to watch.
In-depth analysis:
Hina Tsurugi, the lead, along with her family, moves from Tokyo to a serene seaside town called Ashikita, Kumamoto, Kyushu, where she previously used to reside. Hina is fond of handicrafts. She is dazzled by the calmness and peace of the place. To get a feel of this environment, Hina goes to the seaside one day. She accidentally ends up meeting an upper-class girl named Yuuki Kuroiwa, who invites her to join in for fishing. While fishing, Hina unintentionally touches an octopus, which scares her immensely. Taking this as an opportunity, Yuuki asks Hina to join her school club called the breakwater club- a club where people gather, catch and eat different types of fish. At first, Hina refuses to join it due to her fright of marine life. But, with time, Hina starts finding joy in fishing and later agrees to join the club alongside five other girls.
The members of the breakwater group are:
- Natsumi Hodaka:
She is Hina’s childhood friend, whom she had forgotten after moving to Tokyo. She is the same age as Hina and is also a new member of the breakwater club.
- Yūki Kuroiwa:
She is the president of the breakwater club. She is a third-year student who also convinces Hina to join the club.
- Makoto Ohno:
She’s a second-year student who’s very reliable. She is intelligent.
- Sayaka Kotani:
She is the school nurse and the adviser of the club.
- Hina’s Father:
He had been a member of the club when he was in school and rejoined again.
- Takogehiya Manager
He runs a local fishing gear shop.
All the members of the group go fishing every week and discover and use new techniques of fishing every time.
Star power:
Every member of the show makes you feel good without working too hard for it. Everybody has a different personality that calms the audience during different parts of the show.
Overall opinion:
It’s a wholesome, comforting, and entertaining show which promotes the idea of finding your passion in life. In short, it’s a unique and refreshing show to watch.
