Drama digest:

It’s a story about a girls’ soccer team desiring to take the level of football higher in their country, Japan, where the importance and reputation of women’s football seem to be depleting.

The feel-good factor:

The girls in the series are super cute. For a non-football fan, watching this drama will help one understand a lot of football terms, famous player names, etc. As it is based on female football, it aims to provide unconventional support for equality, especially in sports. All the girls have different personalities and watching them play as a team becomes interesting. Moreover, the opening team of the series is named ambitious goal which suits the series.

The disappointing factor:

The only complaint of this series would probably be a lot of screen time given two non-football scenes where some players seem overly aggressive.

In-depth analysis:

The story focuses on the lives of mainly three people Nozomi Onda, Sumire Suou, and Midori Soshizaki. Out of the three, Nozomi has been playing soccer since she was young. She has always practiced with boys, so she has become an expert in the game. She is a prodigy and hence, wants to only play against worthy opponents. Sumire has always been a talented and compatible player but her talent was hindered by her middle school Soccer team. Midori is a competent player who’s won many tournaments for her middle school. All these girls come from different places and backgrounds and are strangers to each other. Their paths cross when all three of them seek admission into Warabi Seinan high school, where the three of them have come to display their talent. Until they reached high school, the importance of female football/soccer had been depleting in Japan. By forming a competent high school team, all these girls want to make it big and contribute to Japanese women’s football. This series is mainly a tribute to the legend of German football, Dettmar Cramer because he passed away just a few days before the airing of the series, ;hence the series has been named “Sayonara Cramer” meaning “goodbye my dear, Cramer”.

Star power:

All the girls would be the stars of the show as it is a raw story of their struggle to dominate the world of football.

 Overall review:

Overall, it is a sporty, drama-filled, light-hearted, and competitive series.
