Movie Digest

This 2020 Thai movie is a remake of the much beloved 2003 Korean movie ‘The Classic’.  The movie begins with Bota (Ranchrawee Uakoolwarawut) who plays the main female lead, falling for the boyish charms of Non (Thitipoom Techapaikoon). Bota, however, being shy represses her feelings for Non. Her friend Poppy (Meiko Chonnikan Netjui), who is attracted to Non too, is much more open about her feelings for Non. On Poppy’s insistence, Bota even writes and produces a play with Non and Poppy as the leads even though it tore her apart.

In a play of fate, Bota discovers a snippet of her mother’s past – a picture of her mother’s first love. Her mother Dalah (also played by Ranchrawee Uakoolwarawut) during a short summer escapade falls in love with Kajorn (also played by Thitipoom Techapaikoon). As in Bota’s life now, in the past timeline Kajorn’s friend Tanil, falls in love with Dalah too and makes Kajorn write love letters for Dalah.

Dalah’s love story ends on a tragic note, and almost simulating her daughter’s love story.  There were however pivotal moments that differentiated both of their lives which was revealed at the end of the movie.

The Feel Good Part

This Thai version added it’s own details to the movie, making it a unique experience for the watchers when compared to the Korean version. The simultaneous story telling of both the mother’s and the daughter’s love story hooks the audiences, capturing their interest. It brings the giddiness associated with first love.
