Movie Digest

Zhou Xiaoqi was a student who excelled at swimming in high school. You Yongci attended the same high school as a transfer student. At first sight, Zhou fell in love with You. You went without saying goodbye before Zhou expressed his actual feelings. For almost 15 years, Zhou has held and protected this young love within his heart. One day, he receives a wedding invitation from You and contemplates whether to attend or not.

The Feel-Good Part

The film provides a satisfying conclusion to their relationship, which is heartwarming in some ways.

The Disappointing Factor

The main flaw is its misuse of rom-com cliches, which resulted in a jumbled mess with no direction or personality. It’s a mash-up of everything tried and tested. But when it comes to delivering the message, it is lost and completely flustered.

In-Depth Analysis

The narrative is from Zhou Xiaoq’s point of view in the form of a flashback. At the beginning of the film, they show that he is now a swimming coach at a local high school as a man in his early 30s. And the flashbacks begin in 2006 and are presented in year increments. It’s a little distracting that the characters look the same when they’re 17 as they do when they’re 32. However, the characters’ progressive emotional maturation, rather than their outward appearance, is most important in how these performers play their parts. The script is a romance drama that takes the viewer through all of the highs and lows of the couple’s love affair. The cinematography and music are two beautiful highlights: shots cleverly positioned to capture the characters in their environment in a way that conveys mood. While the soundtrack teases out our emotions when the story can’t.

Star Power

Greg Hsu (Zhou Xiaoqi) and Zhang Ruo Nan (You Yongci) did an incredible job with their roles. Their chemistry was on fire.

Overall Opinion

“My Love” is not the type of picture that will go down in history as one of the best romantic comedies. But it is what it looks to be: a lighthearted and pleasant pastime.
