Movie Digest

This movie called unbong is set in a school that is known for violence by and against students. There are constant reports of students fighting with each other, to determine who gets to become the number one fighter.

The Feel Good Part

Unbong is a movie about which I can rarely pinpoint the good part.

The Disappointing Factor

This movie is boring and horrible. The action sequences are shot like an old-school movie, the cinematography gives off the old classic action movie vibe with their grey undertones and sketchy locations. The action shots are looking fake and they seem forced almost all the time, but you cannot blame it on anyone because it is after all a low-budget movie. The movie gives off the Yakuza-style theme of the Japanese industry, school violence is shown as a competition where boys fight to stay on top.

In-Depth Analysis

I was confused about this movie the most, it does not seem to have a consistent and accurate plot, and there is no clarity about the start or the end. The whole movie surrounds violence and crime and I am not sure if that is something people would be interested in, at least this is not the genre for me. The yakuza and gangster vibes were very off-putting and having the whole movie set up in grey undertones is annoying, I love when movies have colour, so this did not sit well with me. If I could give this movie a 0, I would have because I see no point to a movie that is not clear about what they want from its plot or what they want the audience to expect from them.

Star Power

I have no words for the cast of this movie because this seems to be their lesser-known work. I think they did their best, they did what the storyline or production demanded them to do, even if it was surely not up to the mark.

Overall Opinion

Overall, the movie is downright horrible. It made no sense, it was even unbearable at times and hard to watch because of the grey undertones. There is no consistent or strong plot to grip the viewers and that has surely affected the performance of the actors. To top it off, the bad production just made this project go from bad to worse. Definitely will never recommend this movie.
