Movie Reviews: The Cursed Sanctuary X

Rating

★★★

Drama Digest:

Those who enter this spot, marked by a massive tree and an old well, get psychologically sick and die in unusual ways. The horror continues as a strong shaman attempts to cleanse but is unable to compete. Will they be able to escape the horrors of “The Cursed Sanctuary X” and be free of the death that is so firmly ingrained in the terrible land?

The Feel-Good Part:

A fantastical French play! It doesn’t quite succeed (the payoff falls a little flat), but got hooked for the majority of its duration and found Okada Masaki’s flop character rather sympathetic.

The Disappointing Factor:

The writing is subpar, and the plot might have been explored more. The setup of the series might have been discussed in greater depth. Although the secondary storylines were well-written, the editing was occasionally unsatisfactory. More exciting twists may have kept the series’ vitality alive.

In-Depth Analysis:

Kaname Azuma is fed up with her husband’s marriage and resolves to divorce him. She travels to South Korea after leaving Japan. She pays a visit to her brother Teruo’s residence while there. Teruo is taken aback by Kaname’s unexpected arrival, but after learning about her marital status, he agrees to let her stay with him. Teruo and Kaname find themselves in The Cursed Sanctuary X. The drama is based on Tomohiro Maekawa’s stage production “Seichi X,” which he wrote and directed. The first performance of the play took place in 2015. For one month, filming for the drama took place in South Korea.

Star Power:

Haruna Kawaguchi as Kaname Azuma, Yoko Maki , Naoto Ogata, Masaki Okada as Teruo Yamada, and Kiyohiko are the stars featured in the drama. The performances were appreciable and perfect according to the script. From lead to supporting, actors did well.

Overall Opinion:

Those who have seen a number of programs will find this one unique due to its different narrative. But as such nothing is so exciting which could make it a must watch! It involves a lot of family drama too with the great essence of horror and supernatural elements.
