Tengaramon, also known as Godai – The Wunderkind, is a history-based Japanese movie. The movie is biographical. The story is about Tomoatsu Godai, a warrior and an entrepreneur. Satsuma Domain is his birthplace. In the late 19th century, Godai put up the base of the modern-day Japanese economy. He started the new era with the new hope of living better. He also helped Osaka to become a commercial city. In 1868, he was initially a government official with the formation of the new government in Japan. The movie shows how he helped establish Japan’s economy.

The Feel-Good Part

It is inevitable to get the facts right since the plot is history-centered. The movie has done a good work of showing that. The emotions are strong enough to feel through the acting. The overall concept of the story of the historical figure is remarkable. The inclusion of a subplot is good. The protagonist’s role is well-portrayed.

The Disappointing Factor

The movie’s execution is not up to the mark. The sound is sometimes too much and is blaring. It makes the dialogues not audible. English subtitles for the English dialogues are absent, making it difficult for a few people to understand that accent. The characters need more depth. The plot could have been more alluring even to those who don’t like historical things.

The economy of a country is a crucial element for its sustenance. Tomoatsu Godai is the one who laid the base of the economy in Japan. He is a capitalist who started a new era of capitalism and helped people live an easy life. The movie emphasizes the significance of the economy for a country. Initially, Godai worked as a Meiji government official. He later became an entrepreneur helping the country to develop its economy. It shows that one need not always be in the same profession for the whole lifetime. Anybody can change their profession if they want. In this case, Godai changed his profession and helped to make Osaka a commercial city. The commercialization of Osaka has helped Japan a lot. It is the essence that the movie tries to convey that Godai has played a vital role in its capitalism. After he met Haru, he tried to make people’s lives easier. It shows that anything can become an inspiration. Not only did he lay the economy’s foundation, but he also started many commercial organizations in Japan.

Star Power

Haruma Miura has played the subtle role of Tomoatsu Godai. The movie is one of his last ones and makes one sad as the role suited him, and he could have played more roles.  The supporting cast has performed their roles to their best. Aoi Morikawa plays Haru’s character that inspired Godai. Haru and Godai’s scenes are remarkable. Although Haru is a supporting role, her character is crucial to the story.

Overall Opinion

Tengaramon is a historical movie including information about Japan’s economy. Those who are looking for such kind of movie can try watching it.
