Movie Digest

Shuhei is Akiko’s son, and she is a single parent. Akiko had sex with other men, even Ryo, on the side. Akiko does not job and prefers to spend most of her time in a pachinko salon. Shuhei is used by her to steal money from her family, to the extent where they refuse to speak to them. Then Akiko devises a plan to assassinate her parents in order to obtain their cash.

The Feel Good Part

The cast does an excellent job, notably Nagasawa Masami – who is a prodigy – and Okudaira Daiken, whose eyes and expressions communicate more than what he says. Also, kudos to Gunji Sho’s Shuhei. The tale jumps from one timeline to the next while maintaining a level of continuity that does not leave you hanging. The soundtrack and quiet came in at the proper times, contributing to the film’s ominous ambiance.

The Disappointing Factor

This film is about more than just killing, abusive behaviour, and sexual relations; it’s also about how distorted ‘romance’ can be, how deception and thuggery can play extensively into a new psyche of interdependence and relying, and how things aren’t always comprehensible on the exterior, particularly in the case of a connection between such a mom and son who have been together their entire lives, for better or worse. MOTHER will leave you with a lot of things to think about, as well as a conclusion that isn’t really inspiring – it’s just a straight cut.

In-Depth Analysis

Mother is a film that is difficult to see. Shuhei’s unpredictable mother feels threatened when he begins to awaken to a reality outside her twisted control, bringing the family racing into tragedy, and she amuses herself with equally harmful men. The focus of the picture is on the youngster, a son who appears to be destined for a childhood of violence and sorrow.

Star Power

This movie is reminiscent of a Nojima Shinji narrative in which the ‘dark sides’ of humanity, as well as the complexity of human relationships, are shown. They aren’t presented in a spectacular fashion, but rather as they are – filthy, difficult to understand, and even crazy. The connection between Akiko (the mother) and Shuhei (the son) is far beyond what society considers acceptable, but it is the usual and accepted reality for the latter.

Overall Opinion

If you’re searching for a movie that will make you feel good, this isn’t it. MOTHER will leave you with a lot of things to think about, as well as an ending that isn’t really inspiring – it’s just a clean snip. Overall, this film is the most repulsive and dismal, with no moral standards.
