Drama Digest

The story is assigned in the Joseon dynasty when clones were deemed as a  startling sign. The crown princess gives birth to twins and declares to assassinate a daughter. She is confidentially taken out of the palace in an edict to protect her. Later, the twin daughter Da Mi returns to the palace as a maid. Lee Hwi, the male twin, loses his life because of false individuality. Their, mother has recognised Da Mi and pursues her to take Li Hwi’s place. She is turning away from everybody, and Lee Hwi starts developing emotions for Jung Jo Woon, her first love and a teacher to belong to a Nobel family.

The Feel-Good Part

The story was decent. I loved the strong character of a  female lead. The female lead was cast well. The pacing of the first half of the drama was good. The ost fits perfectly to the storyline. The acting of every actor is noticeable. They managed to have generous characters.

The Disappointing Factor

The only issue is that the script was dragged in the second half. They lacked the time and character development. In all, it was a good drama, and it didn’t have any other dilemmas.

In-Depth Analysis

The crown prince’s consort gives birth to a twin boy and a girl. The consort sends the girl child away, but she ends up being in the court. The siblings cross each other. The girl remains in the palace to hide the late prince’s death. She grows as a crown prince as per her mother’s advice. To become strong, she distances herself from everyone. But she starts to waver as she encounters her first love in the palace. The story is all about their journey on their way to coming together. Da Mi is a girl who plays the disguise of her late brother, crown prince Li Hwi. Eun-Seo becomes a royal commander and continues to stay at the king’s side. Ha-Kyung is a commoner and lives an ordinary life. Court lady and Eunuch continues to serve the royal palace. The mesmerising part about this drama was how they confronted their childhood love. In the second half, the theatre comes to be usual sageuk with crimes, corruption, vengeance among families. The drama was found shoehorned, and slow-paced extravagant by the second half. The writer chose to convey a contemporary twist in historical drama that did not work out for the second half. The politics part of the drama is steadily developing. The romantic aspects of the drama are repetitive. Even the love triangle doesn’t create any strong impression. The script is pretty mediocre. The scene that the woman is in a higher position as compared to women is something exciting. But it doesn’t make any such difference in the standard gender-bending. The visuals are admiring, and the chemistry for the side roles is elegant. The OST also creates the mood for the drama. The story’s flow is clear, and it fascinates the audience. This drama started strong with a focus on politics, but the storyline flipped. Great story with incredible performances. The chemistry between the main leads was passionate. The costumes were beautiful, and the music was well-paced. Amidst the narrative of societal racism against women in power. The story depicts how true love transcends.

Star Power

The female lead was the heart of the show. The emotions she goes through were flawlessly performed. All the actors were great with their performances. The ups and downs of emotions can be felt. The actors portrayed their roles interestingly.

Overall View

For the Kdrama fans, this may feel like an exaggerated version of Lovers’ of the red sky as they are produced around the same period. It is an elegant drama to watch.
