Drama digest

The series is a Chinese drama about a father and his five children and how different each of their lives are and have been.

The feel-good part

The show had tried to give a message of redemption through the lives of all characters involved. The character development of everyone especially the main lead is pleasing and satisfying.

The disappointing factor

The production quality of the show is not up to the mark. The various aspects of everyone’s lives in the series can be found disturbing by some audiences.

In-depth analysis

The main focus of the story is a man named Wan Xiang, who’s a single father. He has been a single father for most of his life as his wife had passed away suddenly when all his children were very young. He has spent most of his life in the crutches of poverty. He has had the most difficult time in raising his children alone. Due to all the family pressure and responsibilities that lie upon him, he is always an irritated and rude person. He has five children. He never talks to any of his children politely except for his youngest daughter. Due to this behaviour, all his children despise him. None of them have ever felt connected to him. After growing up, all of his children are living totally different lives. One of his daughters, Yinghua had undergone an unexpected pregnancy at a young age, which caused lot of problems for Wan Xiang. He had to undergo more financial struggles than he was facing already. What added to their condition was the negligent behaviour of Yinghua’s husband, who abondoned her in order to pursue more wealth. As Wan Xiang was a man of strict discipline, his son, Jia Bao devised a plan to escape from it. His plan was a weird one which included marrying his own uncle’s daughter, which caused a strain between more relationships. However, Jain Bao is a dedicated man and achieves what he wants to and becomes a successful person career wise. His another daughter, Yunhua gets into trouble by marrying a person who’s a sadist (a person who finds torturing others pleasurable and satisfying) by personality. After suffering from torture for a considerable amount of time, Yunhua commits suicide. His another son, Ji Fua had been in love with a girl named Qu yi since childhood but his father’s personality had caused conflict between the two. As all of the children’s lives’ had been messed up by various circumstances, Wan Xiang finally finds regretting his decisions and behaviour. This is his story of redemption through an emotionally uneven and unstable life.

Star power

The series depicts a father’s struggle with life and his children’s struggle with himself. Even though Wan Xiang’s character is a negative one for most part of the series, it denoted that it’s never too late to redeem yourself.

Overall opinion

It’s a regular yet annoying and emotional story of human redemption. So people looking for a series with twists and psychological elements, this show can be one.
