The Feel-Good Part

The show is a social comedy that touches on many important subjects of Japanese societies by satirizing it. Each character in the drama is multi-faceted and layered; the direction they grow in is hinted at the beginning, which shows the consistency in writing. As the story progresses each character is shown in a new light while still staying true to the core of their respective personalities, which is fascinating to watch. This is why the development of the story feels smooth and natural. The issues that it focuses on revolve around relationships, which is quite relatable. It doesn’t just pose interesting questions and conflicts; it also gives insight into how some elements in a relationship are more important than others within a Japanese society. The show is quite short, which means that viewers have less of commitment going into the show.

The Disappointing Factor

There are certain shortcomings in the show that may disappoint. The premise of the show, especially the way it begins is quite unrealistic and ridiculous, which may lose the audience’s attentions early on. The momentum of the show is pretty uneven, the show promises the audience with depth and nuance and then disappoints by resorting to cliché tropes when the time comes to deliver on those promises. The profound aspects of the show lose meaning and doesn’t impact the audience as intended because of inconsistencies related to the trope of the show. Some of the comedic scenes don’t land well, and often come off as annoying, which may distract viewers from the plot and the real message of the show. There are certain character arcs that don’t make sense as it doesn’t fit the direction the show goes into, which makes the show a little messy. The ending is quite rushed and doesn’t feel like it has been well planned, which could be the biggest let down for the audience.
