Drama Digest

This drama follows three different plots of people who live in Block Z. An-Na shares a troubled relationship with her mother, Mi-Young, since coming out as a lesbian. Living under one roof, they both face the fact that they’d have to accept each other for who they are.

Yu-Ra lives in a redevelopment area and faces bullying in school. Due to her family’s financial situation, her friendship with Ji-Hyung is in trouble. Seo-Yeon is the lead singer of an indie band and teaches music at the same elementary school. She has been facing the blues of life after being dumped by her ex-boyfriend.

The Feel Good Part

The drama is sure to appeal to all age groups as the characters and themes dealt with in the show are diverse. The story of An-Na is unique for Korean dramas as it deals with the struggles of a lesbian. The writers compassionately handle the issue and successfully deliver the message across. The dialogues get written well to grab the viewer’s attention, but the makers have also put good work into the details.

All the major characters go through severe changes in this show’s two episodes. For example, the nature of Yu-Ra shows real maturity at the end of the second episode after going through a lot. The connections you make with these characters indeed pay off by the end.

The Disappointing Factor

Telling three stories in two episodes is a complex task. While the show’s writer has done all she could, there are moments where the stories lack. In parts, the play might seem to have lost direction. Switching between the levels can also give the viewers slight displeasure. But because the duration isn’t very long, the viewers overcome this feeling easily.

In-Depth Analysis

With only two episodes, this show is as long as a film. It makes it a short watch, yet the complexity of the themes gives a lot to think about. The actors have done a great job, and they make sure the viewers can feel the emotion of each scene. Because of the attention to detail, the show adds a lot of layers to all of the stories. The dark nature of the show may not be for everyone, but everyone can connect to it.

Star Power

The biggest name involved in the show is the SNSD singer Seohyun who did a great job. But also Lee Ji-Hyun, who plays the mother to Seohyun’s character. Both the child actors, Go Na-hee and Seo Eun-yool, are a treat to watch and maybe the stars of tomorrow.

Overall Opinion

Because the nature of this show is dark, it may not be your usual light watch. But to miss this show would mean missing out on an opportunity to watch three great stories in about two hours. This show will give a lot of food for thought after watching it.
