Drama Digest

The story revolves around four roommates, four girls in their twenties having contrasting personalities as they move together to find their path in life. The plot follows a path embarked by the main characters after graduating college as they come to face the real world. Packed with the internships, jobs and several doors to their futures, Twenty Your Life On, flows through the story of youth and confusion as they grow. It is surrounding the themes of self-actualization, friendship, love, and a slice of life presented in a very realistic environment.

The Feel-Good Part

The first notable thing about this show is how relatable it is in all its scenes. There isn’t an exact storyline that follows because it is depicted using the real life of individuals. I’ve usually seen dramas that are based on the life of thirty-something individuals or personas already working in the world, but this drama stands out for the youth.

It stands there for the ones cusped between the transformation from teenage to raw adulthood of life. This show has no concept of a sad or happy or bittersweet ending, I’d call it a ‘real-life’ themed ending. Because that’s how life is, it can’t always be a depiction of fiction or fantasy, which makes the show even more ‘felt’.

Another thing worth mentioning is that Twenty Your Life On, doesn’t focus much on the love or romance aspect of the characters as other dramas, but it takes on to the female leads as normal human beings handling the daily endeavors of life with goals, projects, wins and losses weaving through the tides of problems they face in turn becoming a pillar of strength for each other.

The Disappointing Factor

Even though there isn’t a real storyline the realistic worth of the show overpowers it, the OST is my only complaint as nothing leaves an impression of a remarkable music piece.

In-Depth Analysis

The sister drama of Nothing But Thirty, Twenty your life on explores the Silicon Valley of China; Shenzhen, which is different from the regular setting of Beijing or Shanghai. The drama is a celebration of women, on how girls handle issues, relationships, careers, and such proving to be inspiring and empowering.

Jiang Xiao Guo is lacking in the field of power, looks, and money, being envious of her other three roommates in the start but when she becomes one of the four pillars of their strengths, the journey to that Jiang Xiao Guo is nothing less than heartwarming.

Duan Jin Bao, coming from a wealthy family is pretty innocent for harsh reality, she only knows to chase her dreams and her love for food without any worries.

Luo Yan has a difficult relationship with her mother, hating the fact that her mother interferes with everything but is fine to some extent, knowing that at least someone did the work for her so she doesn’t have to worry. Liang Shuang, is the beauty icon of the group, quite well-mannered and efficient who has already entered the workforce but is faced with problems that she realizes are to be solved by her alone even though she has just graduated.

The girls all live together as roommates in the same dormitory of the university, the better fact is that this dorm is actually like how real-life dorms and the university would be rather than luxurious rooms for college students in dramas. The show follows the regular drill of university students surrounding job interviews, examination preparations, internships with the same syllabus books as student viewers. The show did try to cover many other working fields, careers, and professions as much as they could. All the four leads and their love interests, building friendships, come to rely on each other through the mountains of life, all these different personalities come to form a strong foundation of their lives as the episodes progress together.

Star Power

The cast was truly outstanding. It didn’t feel like the characters were out of fiction or scenes like this could only happen in movies rather the execution of the characters draws the viewers in voicing the phase of life of millions of youth. The actors were truly outstanding in bringing out the whole plot as naturally as possible.

Overall Opinion

Throughout the years, the main four leads slowly open their hearts to each other becoming closer than ever with the shared strength. Twenty Your Life On is definitely worth the watch for something that resonates very deeply with anyone growing through these phases of life.
