Drama Digest

This drama talks about the importance of time and how we should not lament it, instead try to enjoy and live in the moment. It is a fascinating and short story to watch, even though it confuses you at times. It gives you a roller coaster ride of the life of a man named Jae Yeong, who, upon seeing a crappy job advertisement, visits the cafe and meets his unexpected fate.

The Feel-Good Part

This drama had my heart in some scenes. The overall concept is wonderful and lovely. How nice it would be if, in those moments of our lives where we feel lost and aimless, we could find our way to a place like Midnight Cafe! We can seek refugee at a place where the linear time in which we perceive our lives stops so that we can think better and more carefully about our past, our present, and also, why not, our future and we can learn those skills that can make us better people. It is a simple, short, and pleasant drama that very well conveys the idea it tries to. It is more than what other dramas usually offer you.

The Disappointing Factor

There was no solid storyline as one expects from a k-drama. The different time zones and the different characters that the main male character encountered served no purpose to answer why Jae Yeong had to go through all that hardship. Certain dialogues were too far-fetched and had no real meaning. It simply lacked the power to capture the audience.

In-Depth Analysis

Cafe Midnight, a 2020 drama directed by Goo Ja Joon, is a lovely romantic drama full of twists and turns. It gives a wonderfully mellow vibe. The cast did a great job in making us all feel relatable to the cafe setting. The cafe was portrayed as a magical place where you can only be invited to with past, present, and future meetings.

As the story begins, Jae young is down on himself as the girl he has liked for the past three years wants no future with him and later gets fired. While trying to find a job, he’s given an offer to work at “Cafe midnight” which is only open at midnight, and you can’t find it during the day. He decides to work there, and upon working, he meets Na Yeon from the past, who doesn’t know him but states that she is his ex-girlfriend from the future. Later, he also meets his dad whom he had unresolved issues with. This time story is undoubtedly going to give you a pretty good time. I hope you enjoy this adventure.

Star Power

This drama casts Sin Ju Hwan, Song Won Yeob, Park Si Woo, and Woo Da Vi as the main characters. The series is enriched with performances ranging from extras to main characters.

Overall Opinion

This 2020 drama is sweet and straightforward. If you love light-hearted k-dramas with some romance in them to enhance your mood, this one is for you.
