Drama Digest

An exceptional and heart-warming movie, Tomorrow’s Family as the name and poster both suggest, is a movie about family, love and relationships. The main character of the movie is our heroine, Risa Onodera who was jilted on the altar on her wedding day some four years ago. Afterwards, she lives with her father, Shusaku and her mother, Machiko. One day, however, Risa informs her parents that somebody has proposed to her. Who is he and will they both get married? Will all four of them be able to live together happily as a family?

The Feel-Good Part

Going astray from the usual Japanese portrayal of a naïve female lead and domineering male lead, this movie has a strong female lead and a gentleman. To see the female counterpart expressing their opinions and feelings in a male dominant society feels like a fresh breath of air. The story is light-hearted and sweet with a lot of importance given to one’s family. The movie portrays the various relationships in the family and their dynamics quite well. The romance between the leads is very sweet and fluffy and will surely leave your romance buds satisfied. The casting is also perfect as the actors pull off their characters very well. This is a perfect movie to watch with your family to create some happy times and memories.

The Disappointing Factor

To be honest, the movie is quite simple. There is no mystery or villainy and that makes the story quite predicatble. The music could have been better.

In-Depth Analysis

The movie revolves around Risa Onodera, whose groom runaway on their wedding day four years ago. Since then, she had been living with her parents, Shusaku and Machiko. Things change when suddenly one day Risa tells her parents that someone has proposed to her. Her father, Shusaku is surprised to know that the person who proposed to Risa is none other than Kotaro, who was his former subordinate and present boss. This puts Shusaku in a difficult situation as he wishes for his daughter’s happiness but is doubtful whether Kotaro can live with them as a family because Risa lives with her family in their house. To know about Risa and Kotaro’s story and what will be their future, you have to watch the movie.

Star Power

The casting has done a perfect job of playing their roles. They make it seem that they are really a family and not just acting. Miyazaki Aoi is in the role of Risa Onodera whereas Nagayama Eita plays the role of Kotaro Hyodo. Keiko Matsuzaka plays the role of Risa’s mother while Yutaka Matsushige plays the role of Shusaku. The supporting cast includes Tamura Kentaro, Kondo Yoshimasa, Shibuya Asuka, Musaka Naomasa, Ichiro Maki and Imai Tomohiko.

Overall Opinion

A movie with great storytelling and cinematography which imbibes the values of love, familial duties and relationships along with some comedy and lots of romance, “Tomorrow’s Family” is might be the perfect afternoon watch for you when bored.
