Drama Digest

When a beloved and strong family member especially a mother passes on, the absence results in a different life for the surviving members.

This series is about the rapport between Sawada Kyoka and her father Sawada Rinataro. She is a yoga instructor and he is a Japanese language expert.  She moves in with him to take care of him after her mother passes away. He has lost the joy and energy to live after losing his partner. His sole focus is the Japanese language.

Kyoka is fed up with her father’s lifestyle and gets into constant arguments to move on but he refuses. Kyoka wishes to meet someone, fall in love, and perhaps start her own family. But Rinataro is a barrier to her dreams.

While clearing his wife’s things, Rinataro finds divorce papers. Upset that his wife might have wanted to leave him, Rinataro decides to re-marry. He also encourages his daughter to look for a partner.

Kyoka has a good friend Hayate who likes her but she considers him a friend. She also meets Higashimua Seita, a single father, and begins to enjoy his company.

Both father and daughter searching for their partners leads to some comical situations but also touching scenes between them.

The series delves into the bond between parent-child when a loved member passes on.

The Feel-Good Part

The actor’s performances are brilliant. There is one scene between Kyoka and Rinataro that is just bang on. It is a heart stealer filled with emotions.

The visuals and dialogues are also great. The comic timing is good.

The direction specifically of the sentimental scenes is good.

In-Depth Analysis

Relationships change when the parent becomes the child and vice-versa.

The series is about one such bond between father-daughter after his wife and her mother passed away. The mother was the connection between them but they have to manage without her.

Kyoka moves in with her father Rinataro to take care of him. But he refuses to move on with life resulting in frequent fights between them. Kyoka wants to live her own life but she cannot as her father is not letting her do so.

But Rinataro’s attitude changes, when he discovers that his deceased wife had plans to divorce him. He decides to remarry and also pushes his daughter to do so.

Kyoka meets a single father Seita who she falls in love with. But unless her father is alone, she cannot think of moving on.

The series is all about the re-discovery of a bond between Kyoka and Rinataro without the mother. It is also about moving on in life and finding joy again.

Star Power

Ueno Juri as Kyoka and Matushige Yutaka as Rinataro are fabulous, especially in the emotional scenes. The other cast members are also equally good.

If you like family dramas, then this is a must-watch.
