Drama-Digest

The third prince, He Lian Chen, framed the murder of A Qi, the premier of Yan State’s daughter. A Qi’s body was dumped into the lake when she passed away, but oddly A Qi survived. When she opened her eyes again, she discovered that Leng Li, the daughter of General Leng Shao of Yanguo, had taken on her appearance and identity. A Qi, who had transformed into Leng Li, married He Lian Xuan, the Yan Kingdom’s fifth prince before she fully recovered. Lian Xuan appeared somewhat honest, but in reality, he was devoted to his friends and exceptionally compassionate with Leng Li. Leng Li gradually developed feelings for this “silly prince” when she was getting along with He Lian Xuan day and night. Abrupt developments often upended Leng Li and He Lian Xuan’s lives. Only by working together could the two overcome challenges and threats. Their hearts grew closer by sharing pleasures and sorrows, but Leng Li also learned the untold story of He Lian Xuan.

The Feel-Good Part

It was unexpected to see Weng Mo Yan, the FL, maintain her ML chemistry despite having everyday beauty and a deep voice. On the other hand, the ML (Wang Su Yi) resembles Lee So Yuk and combines the face of a classic flower kid with an authoritarian model. His two personas—the cunning, cunning prince and the stupid, helpless husband—were both expertly portrayed by the ML. Mo Yan and Su Yi both had strong performances in their emotionally charged parts and during the brief moments they shared on-screen, you could almost hear their chemistry giggling.

The Disappointing Factor

The plot is intriguing. The characters are interesting. The chemistry between ML and FL was endearing and convincing, and the partnerships appeared successful. Sadly, non-Chinese-speaking viewers find it quite difficult to watch these shows. The drama also has several shortcomings. The husband and wife are both keeping something hidden. The male lead’s secret makes the female lead exceedingly angry. Given that she had her own, that part made no sense to me. Both are looking into something else, but nothing comes of it.

In-Depth Analysis

Most short dramas have relatively simple narratives and focus more on adorable than tense situations. Because The Only Girl You Haven’t Scene is the antithesis of the short drama formats, it came as quite a surprise. Based on a webtoon/manhwa/animation, TOGYHS is an intelligent and engaging tale about the enigmatic ML and reincarnated FL. Similar to My Lovely Swords Girl’s plot, this one centers on an arranged marriage and a “weak” ML. I’m astonished that the drama worked through all the turns because there are so many layers of intrigue and surprises. The contrived union between FL and the feeble ML served as the main plot—another story about the ML’s secrets. One more is FL’s retaliation against ML’s brother. The ML’s ability to survive in court is another issue. Just about anything is fascinating.

Star Power

I was genuinely surprised by the acting. I didn’t anticipate anything negative, but I didn’t expect the caliber of what I received. I started looking up the actors to see what other projects they had been involved in. Especially Wen Mo Yan. She is 32 years old (jaw drops), and she only started acting in 2021, which startled me. It is interesting to know what we might observe from her in the upcoming years. I believe Wang Zu Yi behaved somewhat organically for the most part. I’m also excited to see what he might do in the future. A sweet core pair that supports and cares for one another. They complement one another well and have great chemistry. I adore how they collaborate to solve their issues and encourage one another.   I particularly appreciate how both leads are witty and adventurous—a compelling tale with solid ML and FL.

Overall Opinion

Because of the plot and characters, this drama had a lot of promise to be another epic drama, but sadly, it is also hampered by its cheap budget, some scenes’ dim lighting, and the need for quality subtitles. Thankfully, Yoyo Fun Station dubbed the drama because I could hardly understand it when it aired. If you have the time, this is an excellent drama to watch if you want something exciting and romantic but need more time to watch everyday dramas with 36+ episodes.
