Drama Digest

The drama is based on the twentieth century when the Republic of China was still under Imperial Japanese rule. Xiao Bei Chen was a hot-headed teenager whose family took in a refugee girl Ling Hang Jin. He constantly bullied her. He grew fond of her because of the fight she put up against him. Their romance bloomed, however, they had to part ways for a few years as he had to attend military college. Years later he comes back and marries her. Due to the Sino-Japanese war, he had to again take time away from home

The Feel-Good Part

The “enemies to lovers” relationship between Xiao Bei and Hang Jin fits this pattern. It is enjoyable to watch them quarrel as teenagers and then fall in love years later. They faced several difficulties in their marriage, including misunderstandings and being apart because of the war. But despite everything, it’s still lovely to witness their relationship grow.

The Disappointing Factor

The female protagonist is weakly written; she only ever expressed bitterness and scepticism toward her partner. It becomes tiresome to see her continuously doubt Xiao Bei’s love for her even after they’re married. The dialogue was vague, and each episode seemed to lack meaningful information.

In-Depth Analysis

Since they were kids, Hang Jin was a target of bullying from Xiao Bei, but he has always been surprised and drawn to her because of the manner she has always retaliated. He eventually had to depart for military training, but not before making his family swear they would wed her off to him once he graduated. He returned a wiser and more seasoned man. He exerted every effort to win Hang JIn over once more. They also had to deal with separation brought on by wars while they were moving toward the best phases of their marriage. Xiao Bei had to leave his family behind and go to battle. It reveals the struggles he experienced inside as a soldier and a family man.

Star Power

It was entertaining to watch Chen Du Ling as Hang JIn and Shawn Duo as Xiao Bei together on-screen.

Overall Opinion

The show is only averagely good, but it had much more potential.
