Drama Digest

The drama centers on the Zhang family. It is set in the Ming dynasty, and the Zhang family lives in Jing De Town. They own family business of making porcelain which is also the central focus of the drama.

The Feel-Good Part

The drama provides you in-depth look into the fascinating history of the exquisite and famous porcelain of Jing De Zhen. You learn about how Chinese porcelain developed over time. Not just this, but you also get an overlook of the Ming Dynasty and even the olden day’s Jing De Zhen. The depiction of the lives of the craftsman of that era and their love towards the craft is enchanting. Zhang Tian San and his family, as well as his colleagues, have this immense passion for the art of porcelain making, which will captive you. The cultural aspect of the series is also wonderful.

The Disappointing Factor

The prime focus of the story is the historical point. Hence people who are not quite interested in history might practically have nothing good to look up to in this series. The drama has fewer sideline stories that center on the individual characters instead, the chief focus of the drama is the history of Jing De Zhen porcelain, and even the characters and their story revolves around it. In addition to all this, even the romance angle could have been explored more. If the romance quotient could have been slightly more, the drama would have been way more fun and interesting.

In-Depth Analysis

The drama is certainly engaging, yet it is monotonous to a certain degree. Nevertheless, it is pretty informative and provides you with many minute details too. Although the drama isn’t based on a real-life story still the story that is depicted is quite realistic. The cultural representation or the glimpse into the Ming Dynasty is believable. The drama has a different storyline filled with its own ups and downs. Something else that should be mention is that the drama was actually made in 2009 but released in 2020; thus that might make the road to enjoy the drama somewhat bumpy for a few.

Star Power

The drama has an experienced cast. The charming ‘Liu Tao’ plays the role of Zhao Yu Ru, while the charismatic ‘Calvin Li’ plays the role of Zhang Tian San. They both did a fabulous job and will make you feel the real spirit of craftsmanship. Also, the supporting cast too helps in intensifying the glory of the drama. You will witness ‘Xu Huang Li,’ ‘Kou Hsi Shun,’ ‘Si Qin Gao Wa,’ ‘Fu cheng Peng,’ ‘Xia Tian,’ ‘Zhang Lei,’ ‘Huang Fei,’ etc. in various supporting roles.

Overall Opinion

If you are someone who is a history enthusiast, then you should not miss this series at all. Even if you are not, you want to watch something slightly out of the box and a new story – you should go for Jing De Town. The drama is done beautifully and will touch your heart via its simplicity and glory. The virtuous characters will enchant you, while the exquisite craft of porcelain making will secure a place in your heart.
