Drama digest

A Chinese drama that focuses on married life. It portrays the ups and downs of marriage and various other aspects that a couple has to deal with except themselves. The story is about a couple who meet at their office and fall in love.

The feel-good part

There is nothing really endearing about the drama except for its realism and essential messages. However portrayed, it teaches us how difficult a marriage can be. It’s not always the rush of feelings and good times; it is filled with pain, compromises, sacrifices, disagreements, etc, too.

The disappointing factor

There are more flaws in the show than the positives. The most annoying and disturbing aspect of the series is its female lead. She is a harsh, arrogant, careless, and inconsiderate personality which basically tortures the male lead with her demands throughout the show. The relationship between these leads and their relationship with their mothers is toxic. The non-development of romance was a huge minus point. The series could have been a great example of women’s empowerment but failed to do so.

In-depth analysis

The male lead of the drama, Guan Yi, is a wealthy and successful businessman. He is the head/boss of his office. He is a charismatic middle-aged man who is liked by many. The female lead of the drama, Xiao Bai, is a finance analyst. She is a 25-year-old woman who has just been selected for her respective job. She works at the same company as the male lead. The two of them lock eyes during her probation period. They are instantly attracted to each other, which leads to a one-night stand. Both start liking each other very quickly and spend most of their time with one another. Soon, the female lead gets pregnant. Because this pregnancy happens out of wedlock, they choose to get married as soon as possible. As there is a no-dating rule in their office, they decide to keep their relationship a secret. The company has many absurd rules out of which is no maternity leave for pregnant women. The company’s policy says that if a woman becomes pregnant, she has to resign immediately. Due to this reason, Xiao Bai forces Yi He to resign as well. As Yi couldn’t resign immediately, both continue to work at the office whilst keeping their relationship a secret. However, after a few days, Bai makes Yi resign despite knowing he will have to pay a vast amount of 3 million Yuan if he resigns. After both of them resign, Bai chooses to stay home due to her pregnancy. As time passes, Bai becomes reckless and careless about her condition, which leads to the premature birth of her baby. Their heaven-like relationship starts to deteriorate. Despite knowing Yi’s financial condition, she ruthlessly forces him to spend a lot of money on childcare. As Yi was on a business trip while Bai was giving birth, he is continually blamed by her for being unavailable. Poor Yi doesn’t complain and works hard day and night to make ends meet. Not only Bai, but Yi also suffers the pressure from his mother. The drama is filled with misunderstandings and is a journey through the married life of a couple.

Star power

There is a side couple in the show, which is more appealing than the main couple. They have pretty cute moments and don’t possess a toxic relationship.

Overall opinion

The female lead is unacceptable almost all the time which is quite disturbing to watch. Though realistic, it is definitely not a recommended drama.
