Drama Digest

A righteous detective, Chen Si got partnered with Yuan Bu Jie, a dream reader with unrivalled interpreting skills and dark past. They come concurrently to discover truth behind a procession of serial homicides.

The Feel-Good Part

It is an amazing mystery drama. The production team has set the standards for other dramas.

The Disappointing Factor

There were some parts that felt like they could have been executed more decently. The shifts in the genre was a problem with the drama.

In-Depth Analysis

Dream detective is a drama set in the Chinese Republican era. It starts off as a fine mystery series. The drama ditches the detective genre in the biggest story. Coming to the end the story becomes weak and the greatest villian is disclosed. The detective has an ability to enter dreams and solve cases. Due to absurd censorship rules this ability must be scientifically explainable and akin to hypnosis so it makes more sense. One person involving with another with a multiple personality disorder feels like a standard detective story material. The set-up for the entry of the main villain is involved in some cases investigated. So, the story of the camouflaged person is aimed at to be the main draw from the beginning. As a whole it seems like a weakness of the story. There were few engaging side characters and they could have a greater role in the story. Till the time, masked man’s identity is demonstrated the plot comes to be convoluted. The last few episodes felt draggy.

Star Power

The drama is enriched by the executions of the actor. All the actors from leads to supporting did an amazing job. The lead rows are done in the best way it can be.

Overall Opinion

The drama tried hard to be unique. Focusing on the story of warlord the drama is convincing and satisfying.
