Drama Digest

The drama revolves around the story of an heiress of a wealthy family, Ye Xiaotang. She is the type of woman who hates the idea of marriage since she has gotten rejected frequently. However, unfortunately, the situation turns out to be such that Ye Xiaotang has to find herself a husband before she turns twenty. She has no other option but to oblige to the condition. As if on cue, Ye Xiaotang meets the grumpy scholar, Mu Jinyan. Although he is a profoundly affectionate man on the inside, he has a cold exterior. On meeting him, Ye Xiaotang is passionate about having him as her husband. All through this, she completely neglects the existence of Prince Ling Ziran, who is immensely devoted to her. He is always there for her and is trying to pursue her. As their story develops, a mysterious case is also broached into the limelight, and this case astonishingly entwines their fate together.

The Feel-Good Part

The storyline is not at all shallow, and you get to see many different factors. The mystery aspect is beyond amazing. You will start acting like a detective as you try to solve the case before the main leads can. The thrill of the case will keep you hooked, as you feel this constant desire to find out about who did what. The crime-solving part will give you chills. Not to forget, the drama has just 12 episodes, and the makers have done a great job in balancing the story. Thus, drama has an incredible pace.

The Disappointing Factor

The only regret would be how the romance quotient is relatively scarce, as compared to what it should have been. You will often feel as if the crime mystery overpowers the romance. Even though it was the mainstream genre of the show yet, you hardly get to witness enough of it. The equilibrium between the romance and the mystery element wasn’t entirely maintained. Furthermore, time and again, it felt as if the romance between the female lead and the second male lead was more accentuated, rather than the two main leads. Maybe it was because he was always around but it still would have been better if the main leads and their story was more focused.

In-Depth Analysis

The drama is based on the novel ‘Gold Master Please Respect Yourself’ by Tao Guan. It is a lovely light show. The story is fun and serves you the flavors you least expected to attain. The bonds between the characters are heartwarming. The opening theme song is also very pleasing. It probably might not be the best of Chinese fantasy drama, but it for sure isn’t something you should skip.

Star Power

The cast is outstanding, and everyone did a great job. ‘Xiang Han Zhi’ plays the role of Ye Xiaotang and is the perfect funny lead that she had to be. She can see her living the YOLO life that she was required to live. ‘Qiu Shi Lun’ plays the role of Mu Jinyan while ‘Bo Cheng Jun’ plays the role of Ling Ziran. Other than this, ‘Pan Yan Fei,’ ‘Huang Fei,’ ‘Wen Jiang,’ ‘Zeng Yi Jun,’ ‘Chen Ying Dan,’ etc. are also part of the team.

Overall Opinion

It is an enjoyable show, the starting is excellent. You will love the way the story develops. The ending might feel slightly rough to a few as some of the questions remain unanswered. Still, the beguiling characters will make it worth it.
