Drama Digest
“DNA says Love You” is a 2022 Taiwanese drama. The story revolves around childhood friends, Pu Le Jian, Zhuang Xi Wen, and Xie Yu He. They were inseparable since childhood and made promises to stay together forever. But incidental changes in fate lead Le Jian and Xin Wen to part ways. After many years, Le Jian now has a YouTube adventure channel. He has struggled to maintain it. Suddenly, a strange person named Amber appears and calls himself his fan. He provides him with information on a place named Guilai Abbey.
The Feel-Good Part
The show is refreshing with an original story. It is predictable by the opening credits but is still entertaining. The story is unique, and it hasn’t been seen before. The pacing is slow yet addictive. There was no need for dialogue to figure out the plot, it was simply understandable. It is a romance story that shows two sides of romance. It has a hint of BL and also a general love story. The story has a twist that reverses the gender norms, as the main lead conveys that he loves someone not despite the gender but because of it. The cinematography, soundtrack, and visuals are outstanding and worth the time. It may seem boring in the beginning, but it all comes together at the end beautifully.
The Disappointing Factor
The acting in some scenes was exaggerated but balanced in the latter scenes. A few episodes in the middle lag and the uniqueness of the show disappears. They also twisted it at some points to make it complex. The story with the first couple had a weak foundation that showed the lack of maturity to understand their first love in childhood and they used this reason later in the show to explain the latter love story.
In-Depth Analysis
Pu Le Jian works as a coffee shop staff member. He had a dream of becoming a popular YouTuber. He, along with his close friend, opened an adventure channel where they discover spooky places. But their channel was not flourishing well, and they were lacking content. He still refuses to give up and continues editing his videos during his spare time in the cafe. One day a stranger named Amber visits his cafe. He introduces himself as a photography and film student and has just returned after studying in the UK. He offers to help Pu Le Jian gain pointers and improve his video quality, and he agrees to it. The two of them spend time together, but Pu Le Jian has always had a feeling that he already knows the guy from somewhere. They both experience an attraction toward each other and their bond develops. But Amber holds secrets with him. Meanwhile, Pu Le Jian’s mother keeps pressuring the two to get married. Besides, Le Jian’s long-time female friend and workmate also have a crush on him.
Star Power
The actors brought out the characters excellently. Erek Lin and Lukas Huang, who played the main characters, had great chemistry together.
Overall Opinion
This is an excellent show with a heartwarming story. The story is quite predictable and accurate as well, but it is still worth watching for the uniqueness of the show. The story unfolds pleasantly, and the ending is satisfactory.
