Article: Top 10 Korean-Pop Stars Currently Enlisted In Military Service

Military service is mandatory in South Korea, which means all men as a part of South Korean citizen must serve their country at the age of 18 to 28 under article 39 of the constitution. But for Korean-pop stars, the parliament passed a bill last year allowing them to delay their military service until the age of 30. The bill was passed for Korean-pop stars as they improve the country's cultural status and boost the economy.

1. Kim Jun-Meyon (Suho-EXO)

The members of EXO are currently focusing on their solo careers, as a part of South Korean citizen, they are completing their mandatory Military Service. One of the first members of EXO enlisted for Military Service was Suho. Suho has been enlisted as a Public Service officer and the expected time to start was by May 14.

 

2. Park Chanyeol (EXO)

Another member of EXO, Chanyeol, 28 years old, the group’s vocalist was confirmed to be enlisted in the military as an Active-Duty Soldier on March 29,2021. Chanyeol was the fifth EXO member to be enrolled for the military after Xiumin and D.O, who were already discharged, Suho and Chen, who are currently serving in the military.

 

3. Byun Baekhyun (EXO)

One of the most beloved members of EXO, Baekhyun joins Chanyeol and Suho in Military Service. Baekhyun was enlisted for Military Service on his birthday, May 6, when he turned 29. He will be working as a Public Service Worker due to his condition called Hypothyroidism instead of taking on usual tasks in the military. He also wrote LYSN, he is trying to make the fans feel that he is still interacting with them.

 

4. Lee Taemin (Shinee)

Twenty-eight years old Shinee member Taemin had planned to join the military by May 31st. About the military enlistment news, Taemin announced it on V Live broadcast. While most of the members of Shinee have already fulfilled their Military Service. The maknae made sure to put up more content for Shinee fans before he takes a year and a half for his Military Service.

 

5. Park Sungjin (Day 6)

Member of Day 6 of JYP entertainment Park Sungjin, also the group leader, announced his Military Service enlistment on V Live broadcast on March 8. In the live stream, he was on his way to the military training center. He also stated that only a month ago, he decided to join the military.

 

6. Kim Myung Soo (L-Infinite)

The member of Infinite Kim Myung Soo, also known as L, was enlisted for the military service on February 22 at the age of 30. L was enrolled as a marine cop. He took five weeks of basic training and then proceeded for active service.

 

7. Ji Hansol (Newkidd)

The main dancer of Newkidd, a former member of the project group UNB Ji Hansol, 26 years old, had begun his mandatory Military Service as a Public Service Worker on February 22. He was a part of SM Rookies under SM entertainment.

 

8. Park Dojoon (The Rose)

Twenty-eight years old Dojoon the main vocalist and keyboardist of the band, The Rose, posted a handwritten letter in both English and Korean on July 3 stating that he will be starting his military duty from July 6 and wrote a sweet message for his fans.

 

9. Lee Byung-Yoon (Bewhy)

Dejavu group confirmed on July 13 that “Bewhy will faithfully serve in the military as a Maritime officer.” The Rapper behind the hit song like The Time Goes On, Bewhy enlisted for the military on August 23. He shared his departure picture on his Instagram story for his fans before enrolling.

 

 10. Lee Hoe-Taek (Hui-Pentagon)

On February 1 the Cube entertainment officially announced Pentagon member Hui was enlisted for the military service and will serve as Public Service Worker from February 18 after completing his four weeks of basic military training. Hui was enlisted on December 3rd last year but postponed due to a covid-19 prevention measure.
