Article: Ten Daesang Winners From MBC

MBC might not air as many dramas as its counterparts, but it has its share of hits. Many dramas get double-digit ratings and the making gets better every year. With stiff competition for the Grand Prize, here are the winners of the last few years.

1. Lee Jong Suk

Lee Jong Suk took home 2022’s Daesang with a gratitude-filled acceptance speech. He starred in MBC’s ‘Big Mouth,’ in which he played a lawyer who is mistaken to be a conman. Lee Jong Suk has also received a Daesang for ‘W- Two Worlds’ in 2016.

 

2. Namkoong Min

Namkoong Min underwent a physical transformation to play the role of an NIS agent in ‘The Veil.’ His hard work paid off when he received the Daesang for the year. He has mentioned several times that it is one of the most complex characters he has played.

 

3. Park Hae Jin

Park Hae Jin played the role of a man who gets a chance to take revenge on his overbearing former boss in ‘Kkondae Intern.’ The drama was appreciated for its comic touch to everyday problems. Park Hae Jin was awarded the Daesang for this show.

 

4. Kim Dong Wook

Kim Dong Wook won the Daesang for the drama ‘Special Labour Inspector.’ He played the role of a civil servant with an exceptional sense of justice. This makes him end up as a labour inspector, a job he never expected.

 

5. So Ji Sub

‘My Secret Terrius’ is a mystery drama with a touch of comedy. So Ji Sub played an NIS agent who helps a woman to find the truth behind her husband’s death. This show got him the Daesang for the year 2018.

 

6. Ji Sung

Ji Sung played seven characters in the drama ‘Kill Me Heal Me’ as the drama dealt with Dissociative Identity Disorder. His portrayal of a character with suppressed emotions was appreciated by both fans and critics and he won the 2015 Daesang for the same.

 

7. Lee Yu-Ri

‘Jang Bo Ri is Here’ is one of the best dramas in Lee Yu Ri’s career. Her cunning role gained her a lot of fans. She played the daughter of a wealthy family who suddenly discovers her real identity. Her acting won her a Daesang.

 

8. Ha Ji Won

Ha Ji Won impressed viewers in the historical drama ‘Empress Ki.’ She perfectly portrayed the role of a woman who gives up on her first love to become a queen but later falls in love with the emperor. She won the Daesang for the year 2013.

 

9. Cho Seung Woo

‘The King’s Doctor’ is one of the unique ‘sageuk’ dramas of the Korean industry. It is about a veterinarian who is the best horse doctor and, as time passes, becomes the King’s Royal Physician. Cho Seung Woo played the veterinarian and won the Daesang.

 

10. Han Hyo Joo

Han Hyo Joo won the Daesang for the historical drama ‘Dong Yi’ which is based on a true story. She played the titular role. The 60-episode show is about a palace maid who goes on to become a Royal Consort. It also focuses on the story between the King and Dong Yi.
