1. Queen Beryl

Queen Beryl is the villain of the famous series Sailor Moon. She is the arch-nemesis of the titular character Sailor Moon. She is the Queen and commander of the Dark Kingdom. In her previous life, she was a low-ranking Earth sorcerer. She fell in love with Prince Endymion which went unrequited as he loved Princess Serenity. She becomes extremely jealous of the Princess and becomes manipulated by Queen Metalia. Maddened by her possessiveness, she rose against the Moon Kingdom and ended up killing Prince Endymion. After being reincarnated, she regains the memories of her past and becomes evil again. She uses underhanded methods to reach her aim- kill Sailor Moon, get back Prince Endymion, and attain the Silver Crystal. She is popular for her dark powers and enslavement spells. Her type of villainy is the Monarch Tyrant. She forces her subjects to do her evil bidding without any care for them. Her major crimes were mass murder.

 

2. Griffith/Femto

Griffith is the primary antagonist in the manga Berserk and its anime adaptations. He is the leader of the rebel army Band of the Hawk and his arch-nemesis is the main protagonist Guts. He adopted the name Femto after being corrupted and becoming a villain. As Femto, he is the newest member of the band of villains God Hand and becomes very cruel. He is known for his striking good looks and charms. His intelligence was one of the main reasons for the Band of the Hawk’s many wins. When he was in the Band, he became comrades with Guts and Casca. While they were not friends, there was mutual respect between Guts and Griffith. Guts left the Band after he eavesdropped on Guts. To hide his sadness, Griffith started an affair with the crown princess, which resulted in him being arrested and tortured for a year. After being rescued, he realized that Casca, his crush, and Guts were together. Enraged, he joined the God Hand as their newest member and committed several violent crimes. He sexually assaulted Casca before Guts. He committed murders, arson, terrorism, and rape and this is not the full list of his crimes. He believes that he is the prophet and the Messiah for everyone and that is why his crimes are justifiable. He is sadistic and sociopathic and is the most antagonistic of the characters in Berserk. He is probably one of the most controversial characters in anime as he has done a few commendable

 

3. Kitano

Kitano was the main antagonist of the film Battle Royale. His novel counterpart is Kinpatsu Sakamochi. He is the teacher of Shiroiwa Junior High School 7th Grade Class B and was the administrator of the Battle Royale program. Battle Royale was the program that forced students to kill each other in a brutal game. He led the students to the island where Battle Royale takes place. He had a physical fight with the protagonist’s best friend and forges a personal enmity with him. He has a soft spot for his student Noriko Nakagawa as he thought of her as a daughter. He has also interfered in the game in order to save Noriko. As the administrator of Battle Royale, he is shown to eat Noriko’s cookies every time a student is killed. He has personally killed and injured students who have offended him in Battle Royale. He has apathy toward his students and their brutal deaths. He has also harmed students who have posed a danger to Noriko. He is shown to be a lonely man estranged from his family and daughter. He is shown to have very good knife-throwing skills. His type of villain is the Tragic Mastermind, the person whose evil deeds are done due to his tragic past. He was shot and killed by his former students and Battle Royale survivors, Shogo Kawada, Shushu Nanahara, and Noriko.

 

4. Father

Father is the main antagonist in the anime Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and the manga. He is the oldest Homunculus and has directly or indirectly created all the other Homunculi. He is known for his arrogance and self-righteousness. He wishes to be superior to the entire human race. He is a living Philosopher’s Stone and is extremely powerful. He is cold, emotionless, and cruel. He believes that the human race is inferior to him and he alone is the most knowledgeable entity. He is also highly sadistic and finds pleasure when his evil and cruel plans succeed. The only ones he truly cares about are the Seven Deadly Sins, or his ‘children’. Light Yagami is probably one of the most controversial villains in the Japanese film industry. People are torn about whether he is the villain or a misunderstood young man. Even if we consider him a villain, he is not a traditional villain. He is the protagonist and villain in Death Note. He found the sinister notebook Death Note that would kill any person whose name is written in it. He first tries it out on two criminals. After its abilities are proven, he goes on a killing rampage. He adopts the alter-ego Kira, a person who kills criminals. In addition to criminals, Light also kills innocent civilians who oppose him. He craves a utopia with perfect, law-abiding citizens. He also kills unhealthy and lazy citizens as he believes they don’t fit his image of Utopia. While he is charming and brilliant, he is also cunning and sadistic and takes pleasure in having the power of death in his hands. At one point he writes three hundred and four names in two pages. In the end, the notebook ends up killing him as the original owner writes Light’s name in the notebook. His biggest crime is mass murder. He is a Delusional God, who believes he is the one chosen for the responsibility of vanquishing crime and creating a perfect society. He truly had the belief that he was doing right. While he started with good intentions, he spiraled down the black hole pretty soon.

 

6. Yohan Liebert

Yohan Liebert is probably the evilest villain ever to exist in a fictional world. Yohan Liebert is the villain and the titular monster in the anime Monster. He is ruthless, vicious, and psychotic. He is a serial killer who kills with no motives- he kills purely because he has no reason not to. He was born to Vera Cerna and has a twin sister. When they were younger, Anna was taken away as a guinea pig for experiments. When she returned and told him of her ordeals, he started confusing her memories with his and started imagining that he has experiments done on him. His cruel streak began at a young age when he manipulated the people at his orphanage to kill each other. His goal is to either be the last man alive or to commit the most ‘perfect’ suicide. He is a master manipulator who gaslights people to do his bidding. He is a purely evil person and deserves his name as a ‘monster’ and ‘demon’. His calm, stoic face is a mask for his true face. He has inherited his mother’s ingenuity. His worse crimes include mass murders, corruption, and psychological torture. He is a Nihilistic Serial Killer who commits his crime because he has no respect for life and believes it is meaningless.

 

7. Vicious

Vicious is the bloodthirsty villain of the anime series Cowboy Bepop. He is the leader of the Red Dragon Crime Syndicate in Tharsis. During his young days, he was a friend of Spike, the protagonist. Both men loved the same girl, the beautiful Julia. One day, Vicious found Spike and Julia together. Enraged, Vicious forces Julia to make a choice- either she kills spike or he kills them both. Fortunately, Spike fakes his death and escapes. Vicious enlists in the army and fights the Titan War. He meets and befriends a soldier, Gren, but ends up betraying him. He kills his mentor on suspicions of betrayal. He is a nihilist and has no care and concerns about human life. He is killed by Spike during the climax fight of the series, but not before he injures his opponent. His crimes include psychological abuse, murder, mutilation, and torture. As a soldier, he has gained immense strength and intelligence. He is a Power Hungry Crime Lord, for whom nothing and no one matters. Even though once he felt love for someone, he doesn’t in present times.

 

8. Kayako

Kayako is a violent spirit who haunts her old house and is a villain in Ju-On: The Grudge series. Her life had a sad and painful ending. She was always a quiet child and was deemed strange by others. She married Takeo Saeki and they had a son Toshio. Kayako ends up falling in love with Toshio’s teacher and writes about him in her journal. Her husband read it and grew jealous and possessive. He started questioning Toshio’s true parentage. He brutally kills Kayako and Toshio, who was a witness to the former’s murder. Due to the nature of their deaths, both came back as vengeful and violent spirits. As a spirit, Kayako kills Takeo. All three of them haunt the house and kill whoever enters the sinister house. The spirit of their pet cat warns people who wish to enter the house. She has many supernatural powers including supernatural speed and strength, hair attack, shapeshifting abilities, and regeneration powers. She is a Paranormal Serial Killer who has committed mass murder.

 

9. Suguru Geto

Suguru Geto is the main antagonist in the anime Jujutsu Kaisen 0. He was a former Jujutsu sorcerer who develops a hatred for non-sorcerers. He aims to create a world with only Jujutsu sorcerers. During his time as Jujutsu high school student, he was known for his kindness, wisdom, and strength. Slowly, he started developing a hatred for non-sorcerers. He thought of all normal humans as ‘monkeys’ and regretted saving them. After killing more than a hundred people, he decides to become a curse user. He has an equal amount of respect for curse-users and sorcerers. He would curse people who had no sorcery powers. He has committed mass murder, abuse of power, and terrorism. He is a Genocidal Sorcerer, who uses his power to cause terrorism and commit genocide.

 

10. Sadako

Sadako Yamamura is the main antagonist of the film franchise Ring. Her mother was a psychic who commits suicide. Sadako inherits her mother’s psychic powers and grows troubled. At the age of 19, her father sends her to Tokyo. Her father contracts tuberculosis after trying to gain psychic powers and she returns home. She is sexually assaulted by her father’s doctor and, after strangling her, he throws her into a well. She survives for twenty years before dying. After a few years, a resort is built in the area and she finds her opening to express her vengeance. She can transfer disturbing sounds and images to electronic devices.  She also has shown proficiency in telekinesis and telepathy. She has committed serial murder and is a Vengeful Ghost. She is often compared to Kayako from Ju-On: The Grudge, to the point that there is a special Sadako vs Kayako.
