Anime Review: Wixoss Diva(A)Live

Drama Digest

The “Wixoss” card game becomes most famous. The plot takes it to the online virtual world of “Wixossland.” Players can take over the roles of the LRIG avatars in the game. One of the most popular versions of the game is “Diva Battle,” which offers three players the chance to create a squad and battle against several units to see who can get the most “Selector” followers. Some branches are themed like idols, while others like DJs and bands.

The Feel-Good Part

I’d like to focus on the art because this WIXOSS is more colourful, dazzling, and energetic, giving the presentation a more cheerful vibe, as opposed to the more dark and depressing style that we’re all used to from WIXOSS. It’s still there in some places, but it’s most colourful and friendly. WIXOSS is no longer what it once was. The “Diva Time” is one of the essential features to assemble new fans. After a winning fight, the team has some time to select a program. We experience the diverse music in “WIXOSS” here. Our team, “No Limit, “e.g., has the theme of idols, and this is also reflected in the OP “D-(A)LIVE.” sung by them. In the anime, we see miscellaneous ED from different teams. That is undoubtedly also a powerful peculiarity. We experience other songs that are various in style.

The Disappointing Factor

The Story is totally predictable, and the characters are either average or downright over reactionary. To be honest, some of the designs are the only redeeming features of this anime. As a self-taught artist, I appreciate the effort put into their character outfits, but even those aren’t all that great (like that monster outfit; I get it, it was meant to be sarcastic later on, and it just doesn’t fit at all).

In-Depth Analysis

In terms of visual style, “WIXOSS LAND” originally stood out. The battlefield is where all of the significant battles actually happen. They battle until the last card is played. The fighting animations aren’t awe-inspiring, but the key stages are easily identifiable. The enlargement of the cards used is exceptionally effective. Our girls, dressed in various costumes, are undoubtedly a sight to behold on the brightly lit battlefield. Each team has its own distinct look and dresses appropriately. The personalities of the girls are also immediately observable from the portrayal. The animations aren’t awe-inspiring, but they’re nonetheless entertaining to watch.

Star Power

Rei is somewhat serious, trying to turn off those who just want to have fun. Akino can be a little frightened or anxious at times, but she is ultimately an interactive and calm girl. While Hirana appears to be more of a dense bimbo, she’s also charming, creating a group as they tackle the WIXOSS rankings and such. A straightforward story with endearing characters.

Overall Opinion

WIXOSS Diva (A) Live is noticeably different from WIXOSS in terms of presentation and pretty much everything else. It’s a really fantastic idea that takes the original premise and expands on it to make it more accessible to a broader audience. I’d absolutely adore seeing the developers work on it more to make it even better!
