Anime Digest

The drama follows Natsumi, who has moved to a new place. As she manages to get acquainted with her new life, she bumps into a woman who claims to be a mermaid, i.e., Laura. As a result, Natsumi is drawn to a new world and some new creatures whom she has never come across. This leads her to a whole new adventurous world and the opportunity to meet a whole bunch of different people.

The Feel-Good Part

The show definitely had some really cool fights, which made the show fun to watch to some extent. It was really wonderful to witness the relationship between all the characters as they came together to fight the villains and became such good friends. The show is overall a burst of good energy and happiness.

The Disappointing Factor

The show fails to clarify the several questions it raises and fails to follow a properly built storyline. One might end up wondering where and if at all, anything like a story exists. There is nothing like development in the story either, which just manages to make the show go below expectations. The show seemed highly childish as it randomly kept trying to introduce new characters and villains, which were not up to the mark.

In-Depth Analysis

A first-year middle school student Manatsu Natsumi relocated to Aozora City from Minamino Island to visit her mother. She starts her new life and her first semester of middle school when she gets to the mainland. But one day, she bumped into a weird woman named Laura, who claimed to be a mermaid from the mythical Grand Ocean, the home of mermaids. She has been looking for the mythical warriors of the Grand Ocean who can battle the Witch of Delays, an ocean-dwelling being that overcame her country and sapped all of the inhabitants’ motivational power.

Laura is just looking for the fabled warriors at the Queen of Mermaids’ request and for her own avaricious desire to rule as queen someday. However, as one of the witch’s henchmen begins to attack Aozora City, Manatsu unexpectedly finds herself endowed with sea powers that enable her to transform into Cure Summer, one of the fabled warriors prophesied in the Grand Ocean legends. Later, Manatsu forms the Tropical-Rouge Pretty Cure Team with the assistance of Sango Suzumura (Cure Coral), Minori Ichinose (Cure Papaya), Asuka Takizawa (Cure Flamingo), and Laura (Cure La Mer) in order to combat the forces of the Witch of Delays and bring the Grand Ocean back to its former splendor.

Star Power

The characters are well-drawn out to some extent, but the lack of development makes the show boring, especially the fact that this brings down the characters, which could have been something better.

Overall Opinion

This show is a great choice for those who are interested in watching anime that portrays cute characters and just works as a happy pill. Otherwise, this is definitely something to be skipped out on.
