Drama Digest

The anime is a sequel to the Inuyasha series, which is also based on the manga. It follows the adventures of Towa Higurashi & Setsuna, Sesshomaru and Rin’s fraternal twin daughters, and Moroha. It is the second season to Hanyou no Yashahime, which was released in 2020.

The Feel-Good Part

Season 2 makes up for the shortcomings of season 1. Season 1 had problems of the lack of development in characters as well as plot. This changes in the second season as the characters are more fleshed out and the plot is developed in a way that is smoother. The character arcs are more consistent too. Fans of the original series that premiered in the 90s would really enjoy this as it gives a glimpse in the lives of the main characters’ lives after the series ended. The soundtrack is beautiful and is quite impactful as it goes well with the story, which brings accentuates the emotions expressed in the show.

The Disappointing Factor

The series lacks the quality of the original series, which may have been extremely disappointing for existing fans. The story is poorly written, the plot often gets extremely confusing and the motivations of the villains don’t make sense, which often makes the show feel pointless. There are a lot of plot-points that are not explained, which gets disorienting to watch as the story feels fragmented. The action sequences feel repetitive, which gets boring to watch through the twenty-four episode season. Some of the new characters added to the show added to the show felt dull in comparison to the original ones, those scenes felt like they dragged on for quite a bit. The pacing was inconsistent, which lead to the ending feeling rushed. The show goes downhill towards the end as they start resolving conflicts too quickly to give a happy ending, which is not a satiating way to end the series.

In-Depth Analysis

The show developed the characters really well this season, which made it enjoyable to watch. It was also a lot more engaging to watch than the previous season for this reason. The twenty-four episode run period didn’t feel justified as there were too many filler scenes, which dragged the show more than necessary. It is a considerable step-up up from the previous season. The most disappointing aspect is the end of the show.

Star Power

The voice actors have great performances, their acting did justice to the characters and provided the audience with an immersive experience into the adventurous fantasy world.

Overall Opinion

Hanyou no Yashahime: Sengoku Otogizoushi – Ni no Shou is a level up from its first season in very many ways, which is nice to see. The sequel series however, is not a worthy addition to the existing franchise as it doesn’t manage to recreate the magic. It isn’t competent enough to deliver on the strongest aspects of the original series, which is disappointing. The season is still quite enjoyable despite its shortcomings. Many fans were happy about season 2 due to the first season’s cliff-hanger; they might enjoy this season a lot more. It makes for a decent watch, it might be a fun time for fans of the original series as they may be able to soak in the nostalgia factor of the series.
