Drama Digest

Restaurant to Another World 2 is the second season of an anime that is based on the light novel. It is about a restaurant that is located in the basement level of an apartment building that is 70 years old and is named Western Cuisine Nekoya. It functions as a normal restaurant every day of the week except for Saturdays. Every Saturday there is a parallel world that opens, which allows unique guests from all races and cultures to enter the restaurant.

The Feel-Good Part

The show is extremely light-hearted and easy to watch where there isn’t much for the audience to pay attention to, making it a good comfort watch. The food is one of the central elements of the show and it looks brilliant on screen, the meaning attached to the characters and the food they order is quite fascinating to watch. The sound effects add a lot of personality to the show and give it another layer for the audience to completely immerse themselves in the fantasy world. The music is really great and adds to the wholesome quality of the show. The show has a relaxing quality to it that many viewers looking for escapism would enjoy.

The Disappointing Factor

There are new characters that are added to the show every episode, the focus of the story is usually on them. The recurring characters are given the same dialogues and there isn’t much about them that is known to the audience. This causes a strong disconnect as the audience is constantly thrust into new stories without having characters they can probably care about. This narrative structure may not be appealing to everyone. The art style is quite average, there isn’t much that sets it apart from other anime shows, which is disappointing for a fantasy show. The show often comes off as unremarkable because there aren’t a lot of memorable moments with characters that are constant.

In-Depth Analysis

This narrative structure of new stories in every episode does a good job in giving the audience a lot of variety within one show. It is a worthy predecessor of the first season as the animations style is more or less consistent. The audience will enjoy this show a lot better if they watch it as a bunch of stories rather than a continuous story as there is little that is constant through the episodes.

Star Power

The voice actors were on point and did a good job with the diversity aspect of the show as each episode felt different because of the different characters played by the talented actors.

Overall Opinion

People who are fans of the slice of life genre will enjoy this show as it has all the elements that make the genre great. It might not be for everyone as some viewers prefer overarching plotlines with main characters. This anime show is definitely worth a shot as it is fascinating. The audience will enjoy the wholesome feel of the show on a tiring day.
