Drama Digest

The third installation in the Non Non Biyori series, Non Non Biyori Nonstop, picks up on the journeys of the quartet of our beloved girls, Hotaru Ichijou, Komari Koshigaya, Natsumi Koshigaya and Renge Miyauchi, as they grow into their lives in the countryside and wait for the arrival of autumn. New faces appear, and they further lighten up life in Asahigaoka.

The Feel-Good Part

Non Non Biyori Nonstop has always been the anime that ages like fine wine, and this instalment just solidifies that perception. The story in this season is built around the pre-existing plot of the girls growing up in the idyllic Asahigaoka, with the quartet finding something new to keep them entertained. The sequence of events is presented realistically enough to ensure that the show stays in the
slice-of-life genre, but at the same time, they are framed in a way that creates anticipation among the viewers. There are no “defining” moments in the anime, no pivotal episodes, and the like. Instead, it portrays life in the countryside with ease and leaves the viewer feeling pleasant for the most part. The art style is beautiful and the landscapes are colourised intricately. The OSTs are delightful and in line with the previous seasons’, making the anime very comforting for the viewers.

The Disappointing Factor

There is little in this anime that disappoints the viewers. Some might find the consistent art style and unidirectional plot progression slightly repetitive, but in all honesty, it fits the show. Focussing on Konomi might have been a slight error because she lacks the edge the other characters do,

In-Depth Analysis

Non Non Biyori Nonstop manages to churn up the nostalgia for a tranquil lifestyle in you, as it has done in the past seasons. The characters we are familiar with make us feel the warmth expected from them. This season stands up to the expectations created by its predecessors and features the new characters Akane and Shiori, who are excellent additions and the change in friendship dynamics is refreshing. All the characters are well rounded and realistic, and they manage to depict the ridiculousness and the joy of childhood perfectly. The art style and the music are excellent, and overall it is the perfect slice-of-life anime.

Star Power

The cast form one of the strongest pillars of the anime. Aimi Tanaka and Misaki Kuno are excellent additions to the older voice actors who reprised their roles this season.

Overall Opinion

If you are a fan of this series, do not hesitate to watch this series because it meets the standards set by its predecessors. If you are new to Non Non Biyori, and enjoy peaceful animes with a slice of life course of plot development, what are you waiting for? Begin your journey with our beloved quartet and enjoy the ride!
