Anime Review: Liu Yao: The Revitalization Of Fuyao Sect(Anime)

Rating

★★★★

Drama digest:

This Chinese anime is about the rebirth of a sect. This sect had declined due to some reasons that the protagonist and others set out to find the truth behind.

The feel-good factor

The translation of the series is witty and well done. It is one of the most appreciated aspects of the series. Every character on the show is written differently and intelligently. There is a sort of boys’ love angle in the drama which promotes/supports the LGBTQ community. The pacing of the show is perfect too.

The disappointing factor

In some parts, Liu Yao can get confusing. Though it portrays characters who are positive, mischievous, narcissistic, etc, it still has a dark tone to it. It is not the optimistic story one might think it is.

In-depth analysis

There are five main characters in the drama. These are the men who are the first men of a sect called ‘Fu Yao.’ This sect was formed by their master, Muchun Zhenren, who is the founder of the Fuyao sect and wants his disciples to carry his legacy. His five disciples are as follows:
1. Yan Zhengming- He’s a narcissist, a rich spoiled brat who is indebted to the master for saving his life. He’s arrogant, selfish, and lazy which annoys the other four disciples.
2. Li Yun- He is a secretive person who has low self-esteem. He likes experimenting with things with his magic.
3. Cheng Qian- He is the main protagonist of the drama besides Zhengming. He’s the best among all the brothers. He is a selfless, caring, loving, and protective personality who was raised by the master himself.
4. Han Yuan- He was raised by the master too and was picked up from the streets when found as a beggar. He is pretty energetic and mischievous. He keeps his problems to himself and hides them with his smile.
5. Han Tan- She is a unique disciple who is half-human and half-monster. She is the only girl in the clan and is the younger sister of Han Yuan.
All these five people have lived together as siblings since a long time. They had met in their childhood itself but certain circumstances separated them from each other. Years later, they are brought together again in order to revive their sect, which has lost its importance. Even though all of these people start as brothers, the relationship between the two main leads, Yan Zhengming and Cheng Qian turns romantic later. This is the story of these five people thriving for the revival of their sect.

Star power

The most appealing part of the drama is the relationship between the two main leads. It’s a slow-burn romance that starts with arguements and disagreements but later turns into love. Their relationship is mature and adorable to watch.

 Overall opinion

This series is a top-tier Donghua with lots of sweet as well as bitter moments. There is hardly anything disappointing about the drama. It is one of those real-time cultivation dramas that is impressive from all angles.
