Drama Digest

The narrative is set in the fictitious Saiunkoku Empire and centers on Shurei Hong (Kou), a noble family scion who has fallen on hard times. Her father holds a position of honor and status as a librarian in the Imperial Palace, but he receives little pay for his labor. Shurei makes ends meet by working odd jobs and teaching at the temple school, but her aim is to succeed in the imperial exams and enter the government, which is outlawed for women. Ryuuki Shi, the new emperor, is known for being unconcerned with courtly concerns and for displaying his affection for males. As a result, the Grand Advisor of the Emperor makes the surprising proposal that she come live with the imperial family for six months as the young Emperor’s consort and help the Emperor become a wise ruler. She accepts the offer without hesitation because she will be rewarded with 500 gold coins if she is successful. She goes with Ryuuki’s bodyguard, the enigmatic Seiran, a young man who was adopted by her father. Shurei’s goal of serving as a court official is rekindled when she enters the imperial palace. The novel describes the challenges of bringing about change, particularly as a woman, Shurei’s developing friendship with the Emperor and other courtiers, the machinations of imperial politics, and her determination to advance both herself and her nation.

The Feel-Good Part

The anime is amazing, and the story is very deeply built on several strong emotions, which makes it quite interesting. There were several instances where you felt drawn to the characters, and you couldn’t help but feel what they felt at that moment.

The Disappointing Factor

There were several instances where the scenes did not match the pace of either the story or the emotions. Firstly, at the instance of the story, it was not executed well in certain parts which made it disappointing to watch. Secondly at the instance of the

In-Depth Analysis

A bright young lady with aspirations of serving her country as a government official, Shuurei Kou is the daughter of a wealthy yet noble family. Her desire, however, will never come true because women are not allowed to hold such a job. Shuurei has to work a variety of odd jobs to make ends meet while her father has a low-paying position as an archivist at the palace. Afterwards, a surprise visit transforms her life. Ryuuki Shi, the new emperor, is infamous for neglecting his tasks and favoring the company of men. Shuurei is asked to help him. She eagerly accepts the opportunity to spend six months as the young emperor’s consort, since she is enticed by the rich reward. Fortunately, Seiran Shi, a reliable friend, joins her as Ryuuki’s bodyguard, so she is not alone. While Shuurei adjusts to her new life and the problems it presents, court life and politics prove problematic as she attempts to make the new emperor a competent ruler. Saiunkoku Monogatari, which takes place in a fictional nation, is focused on the idea of meaningful leadership, its challenges, and the benefits that accompany a strong country.

Star Power

Shuurei satisfied my craving for a strong-minded female character with her own goal. She has a plan for the future, and while she does get a lot of assistance along the way, she also plays a significant role in helping herself realize her dream. She also does not let prejudice, adversity, or the amorous aspirations of the men in her life force her to abandon her ambitions for herself. Simply due to her personality, I would highly recommend watching this if you enjoy this type of character.

Overall Opinion

If you enjoy watching shorts and series that are very spontaneous with the story, then this should be the next thing you watch.
